FYI: the ban on abortions in Nicaragua, which criminalizes medical treatment of a pregnant woman that might cause the death of the fetus, goes far beyond the position of the Catholic Church. The Church's position is that as long as the treatment is not intended to cause termination of pregnancy, it isn't an abortion (even if termination is the result).
@girlwonder: I know, and this is truly horrible. Pregnant women can't even get treatment for cancer, malaria or HIV because that might damage the fetus.
This is from the article, and I find it especially horrific, as it makes completely clear the legal view is that women are vessels for the potential life inside them, an entity whose rights trump those of the actual living person carrying it:
It also introduced criminal sanctions for doctors and nurses who treat a pregnant woman or girl for illnesses such as cancer, malaria, HIV/Aids or cardiac emergencies if such treatment could cause injury to or lead to the death of the embryo or foetus.
To be clear, I'm more accustomed to politicians talking around this point or imply it. To have it acknowledged openly, without any sense of hesitation, tells me how far things have gone...
The phrasing "young girls subjected to sexual violence by family or friends are forced to give birth even when they are carrying their own brothers and sisters,' is without a doubt the most horrifying description of incest and rape I have ever read, ever.
@girlyQ: Yeah, when you have no inconspicuous spot to put a litter box, having a cat in an apartment becomes difficult. I dream of the day when I can buy a house and have puppies and kitties and babies galore.
@Blueberry26: I invested in a Litter Robot when I moved into my current place. My bathroom is just too damn small for a litter box of any size. The Robot is humongous and lives in a little niche/corner behind my couch - it's not totally inconspicuous but it's not terrible. Regardless, it is a fucking GOD SEND. Worth every penny of the 300 bucks I spent on it.

I may be a cat lady, but I don't consider myself to be crazy until someone finds me playing in cat poop.
