Just trying to see it another way.

Another thing that makes me uncomfortable: "I wouldn't want any girls to watch this show and think I look good." This puzzlees me, because most models are expected to exhibit some variety of physical attractiveness, however--isn't that sort of part of the idea of being a model? There are young girls who look at that standard of beauty and think, "Wow, I wish I could look like that--being a model must be so cool!" If she doesn't want people to think she looks good, then why is she modelling?
I hope she's doing well and can continue to be healthy, but this makes me uncomfortable.

This puzzled me too. If it is anything like ANTM in the States, you are going to be having makeup artists and photographers around you the whole time, fawning over your appearance. What part of watching you wear glamorous clothes while someone coos 'oooh, so sexy! yeah, move your arm like that...beautiful!" is NOT going to convey that you look good?

We look at models all the time and say "Oh my god, she's way too thin!" and I think this girl is hoping for the same reaction -- the realization that it's not healthy, and that it's not attractive. Someone will use her as thinspiration, I'm sure, but someone with an ED will always find SOMEONE to use as thinspiration because their disease seeks it out. If she's willing to talk about it, and to denounce her eating disorder and talk through her recovery -- even through a NTM program -- then it could be a positive step that many young, impressionable girls could absorb. And that's not a bad thing.

On all other accounts, it's not exactly appropriate. A reality show is not a documentary. And while it's great that the judges say, "put on some weight", saying "put on some weight" does not immediately cure any disordered thoughts or eating. And it certainly does not say anything to erase the years of that very industry pressuring its models to become what they are now gently chastising for the purpose of television ratings.
And this quote "I wouldn't want any girls to watch this show and think I look good." is disheartening, because she is in a modeling competition, and would not be there if the producers and the general public didn't think she looked good.

Beyond her health, I'm not sure that having someone suffering from an active eating disorder on a modelling competition is a good idea from viewers. It's still glorifying eating disorders even if people tell her to gain weight because she's been deemed attractive enough to be on the show. I'm sure some her interviews also include pro-ana tips.

if it shows the process of her getting healthy, that would be a good thing, no? if it is encouraged, that is a very, very bad thing, obviously. i hope her confidence doesn't come from being encouraged to be ill.
it's too early to tell much, probably.

My hope is that people see how the fashion industry awards unhealthy behaviors and thus consumers start demanding less damaging beauty standards.

After taping stopped but before the winner was chosen/announced, she actually got a bit better and gained weight. After she won, the first shoot she did, the photographer told her she was fat. She ended up going over the edge, dieting down to the point where even modeling agencies thought she was too thin, losing some toenails and maybe some teeth, I think.
Reality TV is not the place to get help, unless maybe you're on Intervention. The producers could not give less of a shit about anything but drama and ratings. they chew up and spit out healthy, happy people - they will not use kid gloves on someone with mental health issues.

I didn't know the rest of her history after leaving the show - though she did quit modeling.
That season was horrible.

Hell no.
