Many of us even celebrate the love and charity behind Christmas, rather than the commercialization of it. Until mid-December. Then it's time for the tinsel trees, and lots of 'em.

Also I mean, families are great but HOLY TURKEY COMA I love holiday food. And food in general, clearly, but holiday food is extra delicious.

I also have three kids' birthdays in November and December- and two stepkids in December and Jan.
CRAZY.

Luckily they were only playing ELO and of course Phil Collins--he's annoying music for the rest of the year. I always want to convert to Judism around Christmas time. It just makes more sense.

I am a firm believer in the Word of Rev. Billy and the Church of Stop Shopping! Gifts are great, but when THINGS are more important than the family that gave them to you it's time to re-set your priorities.

Seriously, Mr.G and I have tossed the whole holiday thing. We started about 5 years ago by scaling back on gifts. Everyone we bought for doesn't really need anything so it was pointless. I mean, every single one of us has more crap than we can use. I've never attended the holiday party my employer throws - I always, always have a gig. It never fails. Last year we ditched the tree (which our dog pees on anyway), cut the gifts out entirely (and made it clear we didn't need anything either) and lit the Menorah. I didn't make special food and we didn't have 8 days of party or anything. It was cozy, personal and amazingly comforting.
We've decided we're not stopping with Christmas. We're ignoring easter too. Mr. G usually has a gig then anyway so for musicians its just another workday. We're not making any special plans for thanksgiving either unless the family really WANTS to have a meal together. Which I'm really doubting at this point since last year we managed to "ruin" the holidays for my entire family.
Why do they have to have a tree and tinsel in order to get together, have a meal and snark at one another? Gads, we're such rebels for wanting a bit of peace!
