I really like Rachel's show. the thing that makes it stand our for me is that there is no shouting and she doesn't interrupt people (which is one of my pet peeves, I HATE being interrupted).

Funny about the looking tired bit. I was one of the people that Twittered about it during the show. I was glad to see her back in shape the next day.

I love how excited Maddow gets when she rolls the MSNBC Election Coverage Intro music thingy. It cracks me up and is just the perfect example of her sexy dorkitude. J'adore!

Hmmmm. I like Rachel Maddow, I do. And I love that photo.

For some reason though, I cannot sit through an entire show, I find her a little smug. Also- at times, a Keith Olbermann mini-me, but with less pomposity.

Am I alone?

@SisterMaryMartha: I can totally see what you mean, though I don't think that it's the case. I had that issue with her during her Olympic coverage, every time she came on I was like "oh, good, RM here to patronize me again," but then I realized that she's awesome and that speaking to middle America about Chinese political issues is kind of a thankless job.

@SisterMaryMartha: I think she is more dork than smug. I think she is still getting a kick out of what she does for a living and she is actually well informed on most of the topics, other than the majority of journalists today who are not well versed until a coordinator or producer comes over to them with a story.

Man, seriously I would leave my boyfriend in a second and run away to the country with her. We could make old time cocktails, plant trees and I could knit us scarves while she reads up on foreign affairs.

@SisterMaryMartha: No, I actually have to agree -- both in the "I love her" bit, and the "hard to watch an entire show" bit. I don't think of it as smug, though, I guess. More like so enthralled with what she's talking about that she forgets to draw us into the conversation -- or expand the conversation as necessary.

I've gotten really fed up, for instance, with her constant anxiety about what Obama's Caninet picks *mean*, liberal/progressive wise. I mean, sure, talk about it now and then, it's a legitimate question to raise. But there was a point where she was talking about it for ten minutes a night every night -- while lots and lots of other stuff was going on -- and I just thought, for the love of God, let the man actually DO something before you bash him! And: let's talk about some facts for awhile, rather than conjecture, m'kay?

Having said that, I do really love her, so I also feel kind of like a bitch. So, there's that.

@SisterMaryMartha: I think she was ideal as a regular MSNBC commentator, when she visited all the shows -- Morning Joe, Hardball, Olbermann. I loved seeing her and Pat Buchanan during the conventions, for example. I don't think she's quite ready for her own hour. It's tough to fill an hour of cable TV every single night, even for people with a lot of TV experience.

@DontFearTheReefer: yeah, i do to. i never really liked her in either format (bright and shiny or serious news woman), but she really doesn't get any credit for trying something new to resuscitate a dying form of media.

on the other hand, maddow and brown are so much better at what they do, so i still don't want to start watching couric.

I'm starting to think Maddow could be like the female version of Jon Stewart. She's smart, thoughtful, but also more than willing to make fun of stupid shit mercilessly. Except she's on an actual news show.

She has an edge, but when guests are on her show, she doesn't come across as hateful. I think she and Jon have that in common.

@lalaland13: I think she has great potential, but I'd like to see her mix it up a bit. I watch about 20 minutes of her show and that's enough, I get her drift. I haven't been able to watch a whole hour yet, much as I'm glad she's there.

@lalaland13: I think that in the future those studying how political news evolved will have to acknowledge how the Daily Show really helped to shape the coverage of politics over the last few years. There is no denying that it played a big role in many ways.

I' not sure Maddow would have been chosen for her slot had the Daily Show not kind of paved the way for her. Not saying that she is not deserving, just saying it is an amazing thing that a comedy show could have changed the landscape of political news coverage so much.
