    I hate the word biracial. It always seemed irrelevant in today's society. So you're marrying someone of a different ethnicity, and you want kids. Go ahead and have them. It really doesn't matter what ethnicity you are. I just hope you raise them as well as I hope any other couple raises their children. I also hope your marriage works out for the best, just like everyone else's. Race is a thing of the past. There are so many different types of people in the world how can you classify a person by their looks? #interracialmarriageinlouisiana

    Things like this make me nervous about the fact that my husband and I (an interracial couple) have to do IVF - what if we get the doctor who *secretly* thinks we shouldn't have kids so keeps me from getting pregnant? We do live in Indiana, which thinks it is in the South!

    Can we please stop commenting on the physical attractiveness of bi/tri/quadracial individuals as a supporting point in this argument? That just reduces people to an appearance rather than valuing them for their individuality.

    People are people no matter what color their skin is or physical features may be. The physical attractiveness of individuals or the potential physical attractiveness of their kids is not a condition of procreating or marriage. #interracialmarriageinlouisiana

    The ACLU sent a letter to the Louisiana Judiciary Committee, which oversees the state justices of the peace, asking them to investigate Bardwell and recommending "the most severe sanctions available, because such blatant bigotry poses a substantial threat of serious harm to the administration of justice."

    Is he also against having children, full stop? Because any time you have a kid, you bring them into a situation they didn't bring on themselves. Pretty much anytime you have or do anything with a child, good or bad, it's a situation they didn't bring on themselves.

    @JLady: Actually, there's a U.S. Supreme Court decision directly on point, Loving v. Virginia (an apt name, I always thought). What this man is doing was stricken down by the U.S. Supreme Court more than 40 years ago. It's amazing to me that he's remained a justice of the peace for 34 years and no one has challenged him on this. #interracialmarriageinlouisiana

    There is patently no legitimate overriding purpose independent of invidious racial discrimination which justifies this classification. The fact that Virginia prohibits only interracial marriages involving white persons demonstrates that the racial classifications must stand on their own justification, as measures designed to maintain White Supremacy. 11 We have consistently denied [388 U.S. 1, 12] the constitutionality of measures which restrict the rights of citizens on account of race. There can be no doubt that restricting the freedom to marry solely because of racial classifications violates the central meaning of the Equal Protection Clause.

    I'm the grandchild, great-grandchild, great great-grandchild, etc. of interracial couplings (mixed marriages? multi-ethnic?), not to mention my cousins/other extended family, my friends, work colleagues, neighbours, and so on, and so forth.
    And yeah, we're all doing fine, thanks. Same as everyone else, irrespective of yr 'concern'.

    And any suffering on account of being an interracial child? Usually at the hands of people like you. If you're really so concerned for the welfare of future kids, remove yrself from this equation dickfeatures, and do yr best to make sure that couples like this one don't have to put up with yr (illegal) intolerant bollocks. #interracialmarriageinlouisiana
