MY irish setter once ate an ace bandage - my father had to pull the whole thing out of his butt - after a couple of thousand dollars in vet bills. This happened when I was 12, I am now 30. My father still brings it up.

My dog ate 3 pairs of my underwear, and gnawed on the crotch of a treasured pair of La Perlas*. I didn't realize it until I noticed that my underwear was missing from the pile of clothes in the bathroom during my shower. He had to have them cut out because the elastics were blocking the entrance to his gut and he kept barfing up his food. Now we call the scar on his belly his "pantyline".

*the La Perla pair was (thankfully) only slightly nibbled and were salvaged

One of our greyhounds had to have stitches in his leg a couple of weeks ago. Of course he picked them out after day 4. We couldn't re-stitch because it would end up widening the wound (has to be trimmed out and cleaned before; sorry if details bother you) so I've been bandaging it with Neosporin during the day when he's in the crate.

Yesterday I came home and the bandage was gone. Totally. Gone. Somehow talented Indy managed to pick the bandage off his leg without making the wound bleed and eat the entire thing. It was pretty heavy duty, too.

I was a little worried about it plugging up the dog somewhere in his intestines, so Mr. G has been on poo inspection duty. This morning he found it. Mr. G is really a great guy - he'll even dig through dog shit for me. That's love.

My dog loves ice cubes. He thinks they are treats. Whenever I get a glass of water my dog charges into the kitchen and waits for an ice cube. Comet also love bananas and carrots.

As for weird things, he once ate one of those foam kneeling pads for gardening. Actually, he has eaten like four of those. And he steals tissues out of the trash.

Oh and he is named Comet because when we got him Full House was still on tv and was my favorite show.

My dog once ate half a large bag of Starburst candies -- paper and all -- and promptly threw them up all over the carpet. At least the vomit was pretty colors and smelled like fruit.

One of my cats went through a bra-chewing phase. He only did it for a couple months (and he wasn't a kitten at the time), and he would chew on the straps until they were almost broken, but still looked normal. Then when I put the bra on, the strap broke.
Another cat once ripped apart a bag of rice cakes and threw them all over the garage. The same cat also once ate a hummingbird. WHOLE.

My basset hound used to eat money; she also once ate a 5 lb block of Belgian chocolate, and aside from throwing up little steamy chocolate puddles, she suffered no ill effects-- which is impressive, because I think chocolate is toxic to dogs.

@mermil: There is a chemical in it that is toxic to dogs. How much they can process without becoming seriously ill has to do with the amount of actual chocolate in the item and the weight of the dog. Always worth a phone call to your vet to check. ;)

My in-laws' late Doberman was NOTORIOUS for eating strange things. Seriously, things Chloe ate, pooped out, or vomited included: sticks of gum, an entire pizza, a Whitman's Sampler (that was a vet trip), socks, plastic grocery bags, cat shit, cat vomit, my brother-in-law's bags of weed (ok, she'd leave the baggie and just eat the weed), tampons, pads, used condoms, Halloween candy, other dogs' shit, and more. Seriously, she was this smallish, overweight Doberman with floppy ears, and she permanently had a guilty look on her face.

My parents' yellow lab eats a lot of cardboard and stuffed animal innards. When I grew up, we had a golden retriever who'd get a new tennis ball and immediately chew off the neion green fuzz on the outside and eat it, which invariably led to a solitary flourescent green puke puddle on my mom's rug.

The day we got my lab (when she was a wee ball of terror instead of the 80-lb lap dog she is today), we gave her a stuffed squeaky teddy bear that looked like Garfield's bear. The next day, we found all the stuffing ripped out and the bear skin flung across the room. She was bouncy and playful and we wondered where the squeaker went... until she sighed and it went "sighSQUEAK!" Thankfully, somehow, it digested well.

Also, our late schnauzer LOVED chocolate (and popcorn and potato chips and ice cream - she'd steal it all from my dad's bowl on the couch when he wasn't looking). Loved it. One Halloween, we had the candy dish high up on a table, and I came home from school to find Cinder with foil and chocolate all over her face, and a messy bowl. She was totally fine, save for the bits of foil found in her poo for the next two weeks.

oh! Of course. Louie also once nommed up a new pair of shoes still in the box (box and all) that was under my bed--I'd completely forgotten about it. I take him for walkies the next morning and what do I spy in his poop? The silica gel pouch. We got to the vet stat (he was fine) but I immediately take all those fuckers out to the garbage bin he can't get into.

Running shorts, half a silk skirt. Both required a bit of an 'assist' to fully pass. Nothing like pulling something out of your dog's backside to gain you renown with the neighbors!

A lot of dogs eat crayons. Technicolor poop for days.

What does it say about me that I'm reading this thread while having lunch, and it doesn't bother me at all?

And, I'm having oyster stew for lunch, which isn't exactly the prettiest soup in the world once you get to the bottom of the bowl.
