What's everyone doing for the 4th? I'd originally planned to drive up to Duluth to watch fireworks, but instead I have to be at work at 5:30am on the 5th, so I'll enjoy French cinema and HBO's Rome courtesy of Netflix.

@swashbuckling: I'll be partaking in those most American activities: drinking before noon, wearing a bikini to show off my pasty belly, and shooting Roman candles into the ocean. There may also be a puppy, a potluck, and a hike involved. And all of this, of course, will be while camping.

I hope all the editors have a great time off! And thanks as ever to Hortense! I have to put in some hours on Saturday and Sunday to catch up, and I couldn't possibly be expected to write anything without Jezebel to multi-task with. Is there any indication Palin knew the video was being made (oh, how I wish...that would be the topper)? The woman is a piece of work but even I have to think she wouldn't be dumb enough to sign off on something that blatant.

But then again, I'm guessing about the workings of a mind that thinks she's on the front lines against Russia, so I may have to rethink that last sentence.

@willwriteforfood: She held a lot of resentment against the McCain campaign for holding her back during the election. She felt like they didn't get tough enough, that despite polling that showed the negative ads did not work, they should have gone uglier. So it wouldn't surprise me in the least that she would agree to something like this. She's petty and underhanded. I'm not saying she did, but if she had, it wouldn't surprise me.
