    Rendell is a good governor, but he is also a creepy hardcore -old school grift machine kind of guy. The number of women who have been known to service him is kind of sick. Equally sick? He is damn charming- in a greasy Philly way.

    Also, my husband didn't have access to dental care until he started dating me - a couple of my aunts and uncles are dentists. Auntie had to remove 4 teeth and finish taking the root out of an uncompleted root canal, which he started by going to the dentist on his own but his dad refused to pay for it.

    I must add that his dad is a fucking wealthy lawyer and obviously an asshole.


    We need to at least provide adequate accessible dental care to every kid.

    I am so proud of NY because we have reasonable health care for the poor, especially compared to other states. BUT even here, try to find a dentist who will accept Medicaid.

    We've been having patients with drug-resistant TB- usually poor, addicted, or immunocompromised- in Puerto Rico.

    We have the largest percentage of people under the poverty line in the US and on top of that, the lowest amount of Medicare benefits in the States.

    We started feeling the coming of the recession years before it was felt in the mainland, and thus lots of us had to emigrate yet again to the States to be able to find jobs.

    We're US citizens, it's a poverty matter, not just a border matter.

    @Brigit: it's also important to realize that at least half of people who have drug resistant TB contracted it primarily, like they contracted a drug resistant strain rather than becoming drug resistant by being nonadherent to drugs.

    @J.D.Regent: I was exposed to TB when I worked for a hospital and am now what they call "reactive." I took some kind of pills for 6 months and they say I won't get it. Our cleaning staff at the Zoo has to be immunized because otherwise they will get it too. It is not necessarily a poverty issue. Sometimes it is a workplace issue.

    Ed Rendell may have been taking a shot at Tom Ridge, the incompetent moron who retired from the position citing his need to be with his family. He may not have meant it in a sexist way at all. Was it still insensitive towards Napolitano? Sure, and that's not nice. The insensitivity towards Tom Ridge, though, I could care less.

    Also, thank fuck for Crappy Hour. I need a place to vent my extreme rage this morning and it didn't seem appropriate to start ranting during a Snap Judgment. So to sum up the shit pissing me off (in no particular order): Rendell is a dick, we live in a country where a child died of a tooth abcess, no women were nominated to the NY Court of Appeals, and I am now single again.
