I don't see how this can be classed as the filmmaker's attempt to humiliate her former classmates. She deliberately chose and instructed someone to behave in an embarrassing manner--yapping about her plastic surgery, stripping on the dance floor. The person with the most to be embarrassed about at that reunion would have been the fake Andrea, had she pulled it off the guise successfully. Everyone else would've felt more dignified and respectable by comparison, and come away feeling like Andrea had morphed into someone desperate for attention.

I hope the movie gets released, or at least remade in fictionalized form (actually, I think the latter would be more fun.) I love this story, mishaps included. "Your earpiece is right in front of you! Right in front of you! Right in front of you! Oh, wait... she can't hear me."

Amen, Hortense. Nothing in-depth to contribute but to say I already missed my 10 year high school reunion will pleasure. I kept in touch with the people I gave two-shits about, and fuck the rest. I didn't hate high school, but seriously don't see the point of going back, either.

I skipped my 10-year - I barely remember those people! I don't hold a grudge. The few people I DO remember and find interesting I have on Facebook.

I think Hortense nailed it when she said, people don't care about 10-year old drama that happened to someone ELSE.

I loved high school, and that movie.

But I'm sort of afraid of my reunion (still many years away), that I might not be as successful as some of the idiots that went there. But it's more of a nice motivator than a actual fear.

This is a really timely post for me, as my 10 year reunion is next weekend. I'm not going.

For me it's mostly a question of cost. Our reunion costs almost $100! It's exorbitant.

And as a previous commenter mentioned, reunions are irrelevant anyway in the age of Facebook and MySpace.

'tense I skipped my 10 yr reunion (2 yrs ago) and so far no regrets. Everyone I would've gave a shit about seeing either (1) wasn't going or (2) I still keep in touch with anyway. I figured I could skip the couple hours of people showing me pictures of their kids.

I graduated in 2005. As of now, they've had a few bar-type reunions that I obviously didn't bother with. It's like... come on, guys, I still see you in the grocery store sometimes.

My class was 112 people. Most of them stayed very close to home, many have had children. A lot have dropped out of college. It's not that you can't have a happy life that way, it's that I feel like a lot of them gave up on their dreams because this thing was "easier" and they are going to be bitter.

There's a part of me that would like to go back and show up everyone by being successful. There's another part of me that doesn't really give a shit, because I am doing things that make me happy, and I'm pretty sure I'm still going to get laughed at. Bonus secret: I still wear a lot of my clothes from high school. I will until they fall apart. I look pretty much the same, except now I have shorter hair and it's dreaded.

My mom graduated from high school 46 years ago. She never went to a reunion and never felt a need to go to one. High school was a tiny blip on the radar in the grand scheme of her life. I am kind of interested in going to my 10 year reunion next year, if only to get the chance to speak to the various former classmates that I stalk/am friends with on facebook.

My 10-year reunion is this year, and I really have no interest in attending. I had a ho-hum HS experience; it wasn't terrible, but certainly no time I'd like to relive. My best friend is someone I knew in high school, and my former best friend is also someone I knew in high school, and who somewhat abruptly and unexpectedly decided our friendship was over about a year and a half ago. He's likely to attend. And in small part to that, I'm not going to either. Sigh, the HS drama, it really doesn't end.

True story--I was not invited to my 15 year reunion. My sister (who still lives in our hometown) received a phone call asking for my address, which she provided. Unfortunately, the mean girls from high school were still brats and didn't invite me. My best friend did attend and called them out on it. It find it amusing that my happy life stresses them out so much they don't want to see me.

@gobblegirl: By ignoring them over the incident, they lost a lot of their perceived power and now they suck up to me when they see me. I plan to use my powers for good at my 25th reunion, and be nice to everyone, regardless of how nasty they act.

5th and 10th year reunions are too soon.

Starting from the 15th and on it becomes more interesting because people mature, change, grow, or (sadly) stay the same. You chat about different topics. And your memories are fuzzier, so it's a chance to show how you've grown and even start new relationships.

I'm kind of excited for my 10 year reunion that' coming up. I keep in touch with people from highschool that still matter to me, but I am still curious what people i don't keep up with are doing. I had the same attitude, I want to come back a success. highschool was miserable. I was a nerd, I was in band, I was overweight. The weird part was, people thought I was a druggy and were suprised at graduation to find out I was an honor student.

I'm still all those things, except in band. But I'm successful and have a lot more self esteem then I did then. I'm excited to go back, chat people up that I never would have thought of talking to in highschool because i didn't think I was cool enough to talk to them then.

I almost went to my 10-year reunion - until the organizers decided to hold it at a sports bar, the day after Christmas.

What was interesting is how a few classmates who are now in grad school (one is working on a Ph.D.)were too embarassed to tell everyone they're still in college.

My mom's 35th (yeah, damn) high school reunion was a couple years ago. She was a giant nerd in high school and had no interest in seeing most of those people. Instead she and her core group of friends went and stayed in a cabin in Maine for a weekend. She really enjoyed though one of her old guy friends grew up to be a huge asshole. But the rest of them had a fun time. I think that sounds like something I'd do in lieu of a reunion. Of course, I graduated two years ago so I have time and I'm still friends with some of my high school group. I do kind of want to go to the 5 or 10 year reunion and see how people look. Then again, Facebook has pretty much ruined the wonder.
