    Gah! I'm on day two of my diet and have never ever tried butter pecan (pih-KAHN, btw) but now I really, really, really want one. dammit all to hell.

    @fulanita: I was reading the story aloud to someone and had to change how I pronounced pecan in order for it to make sense. Maybe I don't speak enough like an Amurrican.

    It doesn't work as well if you pronounce it like "pa-KAHN," which is how I always heard it said. I grew up in the Dakotas, though, so I might be an isolated weirdo.


    I can't believe there is a food related item that I can't pronounce right. Is it really supposed to be "pi-CANN"?

    @tscheese: My great grandfather had a pecan orchard. I think I say it sorta like puh-cahn. I am a southerner though.

    @tscheese: What about Worcestershire, as in the sauce? That's a food related item that I don't think anyone actually knows how to say. Which is tough when you love a Bloody Mary like I love a Bloody Mary.

    @tscheese: Billy Crystal said it "pee-CANN" in When Harry Met Sally, and I always thought that was how New Yorkers said it. We say pee-KAHN out here in the Middle West.

    I finally decided it's pronounced wooster-shure. The city in England is pronounced 'Wooster', and when tacked to the end of a word, shire is said 'shur.' When you put them together, it sounds just about like what everyone mutters through, so I declare myself correct.

    @brendastarlet is on it: There are six scattered throughout the year, but Yom Kippur is the most important. This one's called Asara b'Tevet (it's just the hebrew date) and is actually pretty minor but that doesn't make me crave Yes Pecan ice cream any less?
