Visual Effects Supervisor, Kevin Mack's Fight Club opening sequence was a truly groundbreaking shot - aside from the reasons he mentions, the fact that the brain is correctly mathematically rendered to scale, and that it is a single, uninterrupted camera movement without cut or transition, makes it an Orson Welles / Alfred Hitchcock shot the likes of which hasn't been seen in some time.
Yet, because of its' simple elegance, it is unobtrusive as an effects shot, and serves as a perfect foreshadowing, summarizing scene with which to open the story.
All I can picture now is a roomful of producers and a pantsless Kate Winslet sitting in the middle as they scrutinize her for pubic hair regrowth and discuss a plan B if there is not as much hair as they need.
As much as I'm over vampires being the hot new thing right now, I would read del Toro's book/watch the movie he'll probably adapt of it. Because del Toro is just that cool.
RE the Melissa Joan Hart quote: the editor of People gave a similar quote to the New York Times. He said that the only way Farrah was getting on the cover again was if she were to die soon. It was in a conversation where he was also deciding whether to put MJH on the cover.
Oh Guillermo Del Toro, please stop talking about vampires as the Ultimate Bad Boys! I am so sick of vampires I no longer looking forward to season 2 of True Blood.
Several days ago I was watching both Michael Sheen and Lucy Davis in a 1997 television series called The Grand. Michael is instantly recognisble whatever he does but I couldn't work out who Lucy was until the credits.Michael, I think, is destined to be one our finest actors, which is more than can be said for his ex wife.
