Sobriety Poster Girl! Sober Allison looks like High Allison's daughter. It's heartwarming to see her doing so well and looking so radiant and lovely and well, happy. People my laugh Allison, but most of us are rooting for you!
I'm a little confused about how Invention works. And that makes it difficult to watch:
WHY would these addicts ever agree to being filmed? What's in it for them and don't they anticipate an intervention? Anyone know?
@iloveorange: I have a feeling they tell the addicts that they will be reimbursed for their participation in the documentary. I know they pay for the rehab facility but if the addict doesn't know there's going to be an intervention they must be doing it for some kind of cash reward.
Good for her! It's good to know that there was still enough of "her" left in there to have the strength to make it back. I watched the original show in a group meeting with about 12-14 other people, and it was an eye-opener for all. I was there due to a DUI.
Watching that episode, I thought the damage to her nervous system was irreversible. I'm glad my perception was wrong and that she seems to be on track again.
This girl absolutely broke my heart. I know people kind of got a kick out of her, but she was one that I was not convinced would recover. I remember seeing her at the end of her episode while in recovery and I am so glad to hear that she's stayed sober. She should be really proud of herself.
@Vivelafat says Sweep the leg, Johnny.: YES! I would love to know what's going on with her. Also the other girl -- I think her name was also Christy, or Chrissie -- who smoked heroin and whose mother was addicted to working out and both of them had eating disorders.
@Penny: Yes and she thought certain number were from the devil and couldn't be written. It was really, really scary (especially having dabbled in meth in my younger days)
@Mary McCarthyite: There is actually an update for speed balling, bulimic Chrissie (though not so much for her mother) on A&E's website. She was still in treatment, had relapsed, but at the point of the most recent posted interview, off drugs, but struggling with her bulimia.
Despite this, she seemed remarkably better and considerably more self-aware. I hope she can overcome the bulimia. Her mama, though, she was dealing with some long-term deeply ingrained patterns of behavior she didn't seem all that eager to give up. However, addicts in treatment never cease to amaze me, so you never know.
But god, that father: he was in way over his head and had quite the conundrum on his hands: give my daughter money for drugs or watch her leave the house with the knowledge that because he didn't give her money she's going to blow some scary fat pimp for those drugs instead.
Oh, wow. I just watched the video of her from her original episode. That was terrifying. There was nothing behind her eyes. Granted, I haven't seen the whole episode, but I don't know how anybody could watch that and find it funny. I'm so glad she has made such progress. Keep at it, girl!
I was SO happy to see this. Things seemed so desperate for her during that original episode that it almost seemed like she wasn't going to survive. How great to see her thriving.
i cant remember his name, was it gabe, but the boy who was in the episode with her...how is he doing? i saw his original intervention and it was heartbreaking.
backstory: he was adopted from india and his adopted grandfather at one point told him he didn't belong in the family and this created all of these insecurities about him looking different from his family.
if anyone who watched could fill me in, please? i totally forgot this was on last night.
@englishbreakfasttasteslikedarjeeling...: he was struggling a lot with his recovery and still having trouble feeling part of his family, though his family continued to play an active role in his recover and therapy and trying to help him feel included. Evidently he relapsed, but then got clean again and has been off drugs for a few months now, I think? It said that he and his dad are attending 12-step meetings.
@tewkesbury: thanks! his family seemed so supportive, it just makes me so angry every time i think about that horrible, evil excuse for a human that is his grandfather.
I didn't see this episode. Truthfully, I have a hard time with the show. I can barely tolerate Hoarders.
Anyway, what was so entertaining about it? I mean, I get that huffing is funnier than shooting up, but is there anything other than that?
@mfnher: There's a link to the original episode/post at the bottom of this post. Allison was someone you really wanted to see overcome her addiction, so it's satisfying to see her doing well in this update.
