    @Name of Numbers: No kidding. I thought last night's episode was realistic in that they finally put House on meds. The character clearly needed them, and I was glad to see it acknowledged.

    As someone who is functional due to SSRIs, I get so pissed at people like Kirstie Alley who claim that diet, exercise, and Scientology are all I need. If I was diabetic, I would take insulin. If I had epilepsy, I would take anti-seizure meds. I take meds to keep from starving myself to death and/or locking myself in my house. Or worse. SSRIs have given me my life back, and I'm breathtakingly grateful to the small white pill I take every night.

    In other words, Kirstie - back the fuck off.

    @Casquivana: Ignorance is exactly what it is. People who rail against antidepressants and psychiatry are rarely the people who have been in a position to have their lives given back to them by antidepressants and psychiatry.

    Also, until Scientology and their magic miracle vitamin cure shows up on the $4 prescription list, I politely invite Ms. Alley to shut her damn pie hole. Even if they wanted it, most people couldn't afford her snake oil.

    Here I was really pleased with last night's House's picture of anti-depressants. It went against the painfully common media portrayal of antidepressants as something evil and emotion-killing that should be avoided, and rather showing them as a tool that can help someone get out of a major depression.

    Guess that's why Kirstie Alley's a Scientologist and I take science classes.

    @LAmonkeygirl: It's large and unattractive and it plugs into the wall, which freaks some people out. But you will never own a more powerful or consistent vibrator (well, unless there's some kind of magic wonder vibrator in the future). You will want to spoon with it when you're done.
