Okay, I LOL'd at Bush being on there, but am kind of irritated that it's basically the flip side of the non-logic logic that anti-choice people use. "Aren't you glad your mom was pro-life?" Well no, it's not like if I'd been aborted or condomed I'd somehow "know". It's like, you can't weigh in judgment on a person's life until, you know, AFTER they've lived it. Not before they even existed.

Bush & Hitler, really? Hitler I can get behind (no pun intended), but, Bush, right there next to him? I hate his politics and despised his tactics, but he's hardly Hitler.

I'm not horribly offended, but what would have made me laugh is now just making me (sorta) defend Bush, which is making me a bit stabby.

@syneblue: They're welcome to, but as opposed as I was to the war in Iraq, it does not equate to the systematic near-extinction of a race and culture of people. Of course, that's coming from a half-Jewish girl.

@syneblue: Just re-read what I wrote, and I think I should probably clarify a bit.

I should also say that I'm not really (despite my first comment) looking to get into some sort of twisted pissing match over which war is worst. But while Hitler was guilty of genocide and the murder of six million innocent people, Bush is guilty is of an unjust, ill thought-out, questionably motivated war - that also resulted in the deaths of many innocent people.

IMO, does he have blood on his hands? Absolutely. Do I consider him the equal of Hitler? No, I do not.

Reminds me of that Roald Dahl story about the couple that keep trying to conceive and miscarrying and then finally she carries a baby to term and it turns out to be Adolf Hitler.

Also, wasn't there a Twilight Zone episode where some woman went back in time and was the nanny of Hitler? And the whole episode was about what she'd do - care for him normally, or do something terrible, knowing that he'd turn into a genocidal maniac. These condoms could've nipped that in the bud way before the fact.

Actually, the couple's other children clearly died post-birth, which is true to reality. The Hitlers lost 4 or 5 siblings before they were teenagers, I believe.

@Erda is at two with the universe: Oh, that sucks. I barely remembered the episode. You'd think she would've chosen a different method of killing that kid, something a little bit more foolproof. But then I guess it wouldn't be the Twilight Zone.

This reminds me of the blood drive ads on tv: every time they come on, with the whole "think of the lives you save by donating" shtick, my husband tends to yell "but can you give me a 'no Hitlers' guarantee? Sure, you screen the donors, wouldn't want anyone who's been to Africa recently, but where's the screening process for the receivers?"

The best condom ad I ever saw was a sheet of what appeared to be a condom material plastic, with the silhouettes of kids pressed against the other side, as if locked out. Literal but effective!

@counterclockwise: While I see humor as a coping mechanism most of the time, I think that there's a difference between humor about a personal issue which only affects you and a few others, and thousands or millions of innocent people killed. Particularly when some of the people who were alive then still are. I mean, some people who suffered in the Holocaust are still alive and I can't imagine how they'd feel seeing that made into something people could joke about without really thinking of the horrors which occurred.

@sarahxo: My family died in the Holocaust and had their lives irrevocably changed by Hitler and later by Communism. They echoed the sentiment of Shalom Aleichem - we laugh so we do not cry.

I do not like these condoms or find them particularly funny, but I agree with counterclockwise that these jokes can be a valuable coping mechanism.
