I cant fault Lauren Conrad for seizing on this sort of opportuntiy in as authentic of a way one can do this while on a reality program. She has always seemed me to me like the original cast members of "The Real World", just better compensated. She easily had opportunities to join the ranks of Heidi and Audrina, and "act" and sell herself, but I think she has remained true to who she believes she is. For a person who has been on TV from the time she was 17, I think she has turned into quite a reasonable person. Maybe too bit lucky to be a role model, but whats wrong with girls shooting for the stars?

The girls of Go Fug Yourself actually read Lauren's book and said it was completely average, but that it's very likely Lauren wrote it, and for that she gets props.

@ElleL: If she did write it herself, I bet she had a hell of an editor. I remember on the first episode of "The Hills," when she interviewed for the Teen Vogue position and Lisa Love asked her if she had writing skills. Her response was something like "Uhhh..."

@ElleL: I've been hearing that a lot too, through the Internets (not always reliable, but still).

If she did, good for her. Can't be any worse writing than Stephenie Meyer. And it seems like she has good "people"--YA is one of the few literary markets that's growing. That was a smart business decision (again, I'm not saying SHE made the decision).

It makes me sad that there are people out there who are so desperate for attention that they will actively make people hate them. I hope there is a lot of therapy and obscurity in Speidi's future.

There is this quote at the beginning of a DC Talk song (zip it! I like DC Talk!) that says "The greatest single cause of atheism in the world today is Christians, who acknowledge Jesus with their lips and walk out the door, and deny Him by their lifestyle. That is what an unbelieving world simply finds unbelievable" that plays on a continuous loop in my head every time I see anything to do with Heidi and Spencer.

The biggest Christian assholes I know are the ones who talk about Jesus the most, like it's some sort of distraction tactic to their abhorrent behavior. Like "Really, I'm a good person, honest, I love Jesus! It's just because I'm a sinner, like the rest of us, that I behave like a raging uber-douche 90% of the time. Jesus! Let's pray."

@AthertonMerriweather: The 3rd season of Laguna Beach starred her, except she wasn't in the "popular group" who MTV wanted to follow, so it was always painful because they were trying to force a square Conrad into a (not well) round (ed) group.

And I think Roger's kind of nailed my perception of Lauren Conrad. I could never put my finger on it. Strangely. But like Gwyneth Paltrow...nah, never mind, Lauren Conrad is like human tofu.

Just...there. And kinda anemic in perception.
