i don't think i've ever been as excited and optimistic about the potential for the U.S. to actually do the right things, as i am with this incoming administration. i'm really looking forward to hillary taking the word to places like congo~~ that stuff has REALLY got to stop!

It's interesting to consider that we have had Condi Rice in the State Department who doesn't even acknowledge that her upbringing was any different from any given white male's...well white male's who ice skate, but you know what I mean.

Did y'all catch Kerry's offer to Chelsea to be an "honorary intern" so she could sit in the front and Hillary could see her? I thought that was sweet- Hillary had mentioned to him that she wished Chelsea wasn't sitting behind her because she wanted to be able to see her and probably feel a little more at ease. I love that the Clinton women are bffs.

Maybe I'll be surprised. And hey, I trust these guys to be "honest brokers" far more than the McCain-Palin/Bush-Cheney alternative.

Part of bin Laden's dislike for the U.S. is that female US soldiers were stationed at Riyadh during the first gulf war.

@eatsshootsleaves: I'm not particularly surprised by it--the US has always fallen completely in the Israeli camp--but I agree that this administration is more likely to take a nuanced view than the last one. And Hamas just gets more and more insane as time goes on. I really feel for Palestinian women, they're victims of Hamas, of Israel, of their religious leaders and they are almost completely powerless to do anything about it.

@eatsshootsleaves: I would say that they might feel more hopeful than with past Administrations (but I'm guessing, because I'm not Palestinian, I'm American-Israeli).

A few points: Obama has made it clear that he favors diplomacy over knee-jerk force; he has hinted fairly broadly that he is not a fan of the current Israeli operation and/or ongoing settlement; and running the State Department is not the same as running for election (ie: there's a lot less need to craft a message for a particular constituency). Oh, and I honestly believe (though I fear it might just be hope) that Hilary is a tougher number than Bill.

And finally, if Clinton actually follows through on those very important sentiments that she just expressed, surely it will be good for Palestinian women.
