uhm...this is going to sound horrible but i have to say my peace. we have maybe ten years before we are globally raped in the ass and are all suffering from anal propalses that is global warming. As much as I care about stuff like prop 8 it pains me that much more pressing issues that affect the majority of the world's populations are being ignored, because of this (which btw is one state, a big state yes, but one sate). It's not that I don't care (i do) but that we are careening towards global collapse (the bees, the starving polar bears) means that even if in the gays in california get their rights restored it kind of won't matter.
I wouldn't put too much stock into Hillary taking the Sec.of State position. Obama's transition team is also looking into Richardson, so it's not like she was his only pick.
Not really sure why Hillary would want to give up a secure Senate seat for a limited amount of time in a different position anyways.
@Gundam_Halo: Keep hopin'. Richardson is the backup if HIl turns it down. They're looking into Richardson the way that an actor needs an understudy.
She's taking it. And maybe she would give up a Senate seat because she knows she'd be an excellent ambassador across the world for American foreign policy, conviction and COMPETENCE? Obama is doing great here. And she will be the SoS. And the haters will just have to let their heads explode where they will.
I don't think I can make a protest since I was attacked by a goblin while plugging in my computer this morning and threw my back out. But I suggest others join me in changing their avatar to the No on H8 logo
I think the boycotting makes total sense. Economic divestment is an effective form of protest. Didn't we call for a boycott of American Apparel earlier on this site? This is no different. I don't buy from companies that test on animals etc. This isn't some McCarthy shit, this my own damn money. And if there's some counter-movement, and I'm persona non grata bc I donated against 8 (as opposed to why I'm usually not asked back to places...for being a drunk-ass bitch) who gives a fuck. Civil disobedience is hard, y'all.
It's warming to see the support. On the other hand, and sorry for sounding cynical and bitter, all the protesting in the world is not going to prevent some nutjob from sneering or commenting if they see a simple hug. It's not going to turn them from thinking us sinners.
In fact, I fear it might incite the hardcore haters. I hope I am completely wrong but I feel really worried for bold, brave couples living in certain backward areas of this country.
Then again, I'm a liberal lesbian. It's in my nature to worry!
I just commented here, but I cant help it. I am so excited about any future role Hillary may have in the future awesomeness that is to be known as Obama's administration. Omgomgomg I can't wait.
Another side comment, shouldn't we be calling her Senator Clinton? Although for some reason, I feel awkward calling her that. Is it bad to call her "Hillary?" I am of the confused. I feel like I'm not giving her the respect that her title deserves by not calling her Senator Clinton, but at the same time, "Hillary" is what has been ingrained in my head.
@Jeenzy: I will never, ever call her Hillary. Until we meet and become BFF, that is. Personal choice, although I do agree with you. I usually call her Clinton or HRC. Don't let it be ingrained!
It made me mad because during the primaries the only signs I could find said "Hillary," I guess because she's married to Bill. But still....
Whoever was talking about "No More Mr. Nice Gay" the other day was SO spot on. In talking to gay people, there's a total sense of activism rising within them. It's kind of this realization (especially among older generations) of "we've been cutting checks and contributing but it's NOT ENOUGH." It's super cool to see, really.
Oooh, I like Straight against Hate. @SisterMaryMartha: , I'm planning on going to the San Diego rally tomorrow with the boyfriend.(I love that my 4 years ago homophobic boyfriend is now all into gay rights!!!)
@peperony and chease: dude- i will send you a coupon for a cheezburger if you make that sign for the protest.
@Archetype: OMG- I would do this. But I have roommates, I don't actually know how they feel....well, fuck it. I am going to print some and bring them home anyway.
