That's the Le Pain Quotidien on San Vicente! I ate lunch there just yesterday. Rats, should have waited until today I guess. I love me a good star sighting.
@littlebunnyfoofoo: Brentwood is definitely his hood. I've seen him at Brentwood Gardens at least three times.
And he almost ran me over once in Santa Monica. I was really angry until I realized it was Indy/Han/Rick Deckard. Then I just waived and smiled. Thanks Harrison!
"I wonder if I should talk to him... maybe I should just say hi, and that's it" HH
"Maybe if I pretend to be reading I don't have to say hi or have any awkward conversation with her" HF
Except he didn't play Jack Ryan in that movie; Alec Baldwin did, and he only opted out of the other movies to do The Shadow. I'll bet he cries about that sometimes.
Whaaaat? Abysmal? No. This movie is beyond awesome, beyond amazing. I think I've seen it over 100 times, no joke. But, I also think you're right in that we don't need more remakes, we need NEW MOVIES. Even if you're telling me the same essential story, I want it in a new setting with new characters, and I want it to resonate with who I am today, not who I was 10 years ago.
There are a lot of writers and a lot of new ideas, but Hollywood execs aren't buying them. They want blockbusters, not good films. So they keep remaking films that have no business being remade (because they were either 1) perfect or 2) kitschy/dated). I've made the mistake of reading some of the comments on IMBD, and a lot of very young posters will say "So-and-so should be in the remake of Blah Blah." It's like remakes are a part of their lives. It makes me really sad.
My mom was one of those very "anti-MTV" moms in the 80s and that translated into any movies with modern music titles. So when I finally got to see this she kept trying to teach me lessons during the movie. Like when the party got trashed she said something like "And see? That's not fair because her dad spent a lot of money and now other people are going to have to work late to clean it up and they need to see their families too."
it's not just the movies either... i heard 90210 is doing so well they are doing a new melrose place? proof that we grew up with such cool shit that they just can't top it for the next generation.
p.s. flight of the navigator was my favorite movie growing up. i guess that makes me more twelve year old boy than twelve year old girl, but i'm okay with it.
Um, I love this movie in all its cheesy, 80s awesomeness but a remake is a terrible idea. Please, no. Just no.
Fun fact though: The actor that played SJP's father used to (or maybe still does) summer at the Shore. My brother used to wander to other families' blankets and sort of beg for food using his curly blond hair and big blue eyes as his weapon. The actor was one of his victims.
I loved this movie; granted I was 8. It also starred a young Shannon Doherty. "You thought I was punk? I was going for New Wave, but that's a lot better than Pre-Teen!" It was a must at every sleepover in our town for 4 years. In retrospect it is practically a paint-by-numbers opposites attract dance movie. No cliche is left unharmed! Rebel boy from wrong side of the tracks, innocent schoolgirl with killer moves, villainous heiress, quirky, spunky best friend! A dance-off! Oh... I think i need to go lie down.
@Suzanne Santos Costner: I think I was about the same age, maybe a little older when I saw it. Oh, 1985. I was 11 that year. It was just so exactly what pop culture was like at that very moment. I remember thinking it was exactly right, exactly what I expected and wanted it to be. Kids these days...growing up without Solid Gold or Dance Fever on Saturday nights. Or even American Bandstand. The hilarity of the whole African-anteater-ritual segment of Can't Buy Me Love is lost without American Bandstand.
Damn. Now I know how I wish I were spending my weekend.

Fine. I'll remake Dance Flick. I know it just came out, but fair is fair. RE-DO.

I don't know why I try. Maybe I should become the Puff Daddy of movies, take mainstream movie and make them "urban".
