@pleppy: I've read in today's Sacramento Bee that 10 percent of the state's voters were black in the 2008 election and since 70 percent of them supported Prop 8, that was enough to give the proposition its edge to win. That's just according to the Bee but a lot of people forget that Prop 22, which is similar to Prop 8, had passed with flying colors in California's 2000 election before it was shot down by the state supreme court.

@pleppy: After reading that statistic it became painfully clear to me why Obama/Biden steered so far away from that issue :(. I wonder if they had supported Prop 8, whether that would have diminished their black votes significantly or if it would have actually helped it pass. I guess we'll never know.

I'm am thrilled beyond measure at the election results, in part because of what it says about race relations in this country, blahblah, but here's the thing:

We won't be post-racism until a walking cluster-fuck like GWB can be Elected While Black. Obama's incredible qualities allowed people to get past their racism. That's not an end to racism -- we'll know racism is behind us when Blacks get to be as incompetent as whites. (You know, like those people some of y'all work with!)

@ellaesther: No, I see what you're saying... often at first the person crossing that initial racial barrier has to be an exceptionally flawless and outstandingly talented person. Like Jackie Robinson or Tiger Woods, its extremely hard for anyone to deny their brilliance. It always seems to take a phenom to first open that door... sad but true. Its more likely that in the future we will see black pres. candidates who are as imperfect as their white candidates, and see them go farther, because its just going to be less of an issue.

It really wasn't possible when the only black candidates in the mainstream eye were the likes of Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, and .. oh yeah, Alan Keyes ;D .. No white folk as a whole would entertain such ridiculous radicals, so those guys made the concept of a black president unachievable.

Needless to say, Obama is a whole 'nother story altogether, and as the polls have proven, he is deemed intelligent and certainly someone white folk can feel cozy with.

It was the early or mid-sixties and in college they had been reading about the experiments cited in the Brown v. Board of Education briefs in support of the proposition that separate was not equal and that segregation creating a feeling of inferiority in black children from an early age.

Another white woman student said, "Well, even black kids select the white dolls. So even they must think they're inferior."

My relative said, or at least thought, That's the WHOLE point.

@bluebears: Yeah, I've heard, second-hand, about some racist things people where I work have said about Obama. Our plant and workforce is mainly Black (though management is White...which is another story) so the racism from Whites really bothers me. Do they think that of their co-workers?
