It really isn't life changing, Academy award level material, but it seems like a movie Jezebel should be supporting for not being a typical women's movie.

What is driving me crazy is the new genre of male led romantic comedies. Knocked Up was fine and I really liked Forgetting Sarah Marshall, but most of the onslaught of guy centered rom coms have been really depressing and sexist looking. I'm not interested in seeing a douchey Matthew McConaughey realize he might die alone and so he should hook up with too good for him Jennifer Gardner. I feel like there have been 6 movies about Dane Cook/Dax Shepard as playboys that find love in the last few years. I don't need to see a movie about why men don't call me, I've always chalked that up to not interested without it crushing my soul. I actually saw Made of Honor and spent the whole time wondering why the lead female would want to be with Patrick Dempsey. Landing an asshole has never been my fantasy.

I think those movies deserve a lot more scorn than female centered rom coms which at the very least feature a female actress (and we know they don't get enough lead roles).

b) the man who thought of her as little more than the plain friend suddenly realises he's truly madly deeply in love with her rushes to the airport to declare his love and stop her from leaving.

And I too hate romantic comedies. There have been two I have been able to stand -- Bridget Jones, largely because of Hugh Grant; and Fever Pitch, because it portrayed a fairly normal, sane couple.

CHILDHOOD THROUGH COLLEGE: You may or may not have had a "feud" with a pretty, popular girl. But since you were such a geek, you grew up to be SPECIAL! DIFFERENT! You have a zest for life and love art and/or poetry. But yet you are so so misunderstood.

COLLEGE THROUGH EARLY-THIRTIES: You will meet a mopey slacker boy-man. He will be 30 but have no job (nor the inclination to look for one) and still lives with his parents. He may or may not have a girlfriend who is a dead ringer for that evil pretty popular girl from your childhood years.

You will introduce him to The Shins and change his life. You will dance in the rain together, and perhaps shout from a cliff. He will see that the girlfriend is shallow and evil by virtue of her being conventionally pretty, and leave her for you. You will have finally won.

MARRIED LIFE: You and mopey man will marry. He will continue to be a pot-loving slacker who play video games all day and tells fart/penis jokes. You are still a misunderstood artiste, but now you nag him all day. Thus, the passion is gone.

He will meet a younger, conventionally pretty but uptight girl who has her shit together. This girl will also change his life, but it's not good for you - he will leave you for her.

YOUR 50s AND OVER: Even though it's been 15 years, you still feel bitter over mopey pot-loving slacker boy-man leaving you. You will also not have gotten any since the middle of that marriage.

You will then meet a gorgeous man in his 20s. You will rediscover sex and begin a torrid affair with him.
