You know what's funny? I just cut my hair to this length (but with long, choppy bangs, too), and I love it. I didn't even consider Gwyneth or Plum. So, does that make me an accidental follower?

Wait, she got a haircut? I honestly didn't notice.

*shrug* I'm failing to see what's so "weird" and "radical" about pretty-much-shoulder-length hair. It's never really gone out of style so that it needs to come back in with great fanfare. And the whole ponytail thing? Lots of us specifically request "long enough that I can wear it in a ponytail." Our hairdressers just roll their eyes and comply because they've heard it so many times before.

Hey everyone let me tell you about this amazing discovery I've made, yah, it's called hair and incredibly enough you find it on top of your head. Why only the other day I said to my friend Veruca Poncington Smythe, you know this hair we all have, what do you think would happen if we cut it? Well she was quite over come by my daring, the dear girl almost fainted. But we headed to Vittorio's joint, so chic that no one knows where it is, and he took a pair of these things called scissors and snipped the tiniest fairy kiss off. Less than a millimetre. Well it transformed me. It made me realise how much better and more wonderful I am than all the other socialites around and how much longer and more elegant my neck it. Verucca was quite overcome by jealousy, particularly when I pointed out that I, Plum, had just invented 'the haircut'.

@bluebears: That sounds wonderful. Only do you think we could possibly track down some little girl to write it for me, after all I will be far too busy ensuring that my hair remains exactly the right length and that noone copies to actually write an article. Besides Gwyneth tells me that absolutely no one whose anyone writes their own copy these days, it's just too too divine to pay some minion to do so instead.

Also, blunt cuts work on some people. My hair is straight as a ruler, and it's fine but I have a lot of it. It was made to rock a nice sharp blunt line.

@Flackette is a Red State Elitist: We appear to have the same hair, which explains having the same cut for a while. Mine is fine and yet thick in that there is tons of it, hence the blunt cut.

It does blow my mind how haircuts become trends though. And not just in a "Give me the Rachel!" sense. Last year I was having drinks with a friend in Williamsburg and I suddenly realized that of the 20 or so women in the group, fully 18 had the same bizarre, unflattering hobbit haircut. Somebody really cool must've gotten it at some point and they loved her so much that the did it to themselves. It was a mess. Mulletish, astounding amounts of layers (bordering on feathered), jaw-length to chin-length.

Luckily, that phase appears to have passed. I guess next stop, Plum Sykes?
