    This is why I love Jez. Some people here love her, some no so much and other people are asking for a way to review her work to understand better the love and the not so much.

    I admit not knowing much about her and am intrigued and will be looking to see more about and by her.

    When I first started hearing about her it didn't sound like her stuff would be that good but now that I've seen it-- it is! I recently found out that my local art museum has some of her work. Yaaay!

    Cindy Sherman could be un-famous working out of her basement and she'd still be one of the most interesting and terrifying artists out there. Maybe it's not her fame that he's jealous of.

    I went back to the original Jez post on it and some of the links. I think this man is venting his... frustration, or whatever you want to call it. And um, I guess it's art. But I find it difficult to believe that Mister H-O should be all that shocked when women react with a dismissive "oh, cry me a fucking river."

    Note to SomeAuthorGirl-Exes: make a movie about how I made you feel like shit and I'll sue, art bedamned.

    So, an unwittingly truthful film. Thanks, H-O! As a female artist who's constantly shunted aside and overlooked by dudes no matter what my work looks like, I actually think you've done us a huge favor.

    @Gingerlime:

    I'm a photographer, still in school, and it might give you a bit of hope to know that out of my year, consisting of 60 people, maybe only 15 are male. It's the same for most other years and some other art schools in my city. This generation of photographers is overwhelmingly female, even though our professors and mentors are overwhelmingly male. I'm not sure how the concentration is for other mediums, but the face of photography is changing rather quickly.

    @AndNowForSomethingDifferent: Sadly, the vast majority of art students have always been female (well, at least for the last 30 years) but the people that "make it" in the industry continue to be male.

    I do truly wish you the best though! I studied photography, but eventually became and art director and took a job in advertising so that I could pay the rent.

    @AndNowForSomethingDifferent: Not to burst your bubble, but having mostly female students does not mean that in 20-30 years the powerful photographers will mostly be female.

    Psychology is a good example. PhD students in psychology have been overwhelmingly female since the 1960s, but if you look at who holds the professorships, there aren't as many women as you would expect to see.

    Having a lot of women in a field doesn't mean that is who will be promoted and celebrated.

    I'm interested in seeing a movie about Cindy Sherman but that clip was really annoying to listen to. Is this movie primarily about her work, or about his issues being her boyfriend? Because I really could not care less about the latter or how similar he is or isn't to Guy Ritchie.

    Quote from Cindy:

    "As my name is in the title and my work and self are so abundantly represented, I would like to counter any assumption that I am or wish to be personally associated with it. I am not a participant in any events related to the film's screenings in this festival or future presentations. I apologize to all those who participated, thinking they were doing me a favor in giving interviews and otherwise assisting in the fabrication of this film. Against my better judgment, it was clearly unwise to cooperate with the project at its inception."

    If you take the genders out of it (or reverse them) I still feel like this is not necessarily unique to the male ego. Fame is something that attracts most people and then it's also addictive (from what I've seen). There's a reason that for every Kim Kardashian there's a Khloe Kardashian waiting in the wings trying to be famous on her own.

    @EdnasEdibles: I picture the entire Kardashian household as some sort of Borgian snakepit of greed and famewhoresom. Like little KaKa Kardashian is honing her stiletto and filling her special ring with poison. Except for Bruce. He seems genuinely befuddled by all of them.
