I have never played tennis, or followed tennis, or even been remotely interested in tennis, honestly. But I still count Billie Jean King as one of my heroes.
Is that odd?
I also have an old beat-up racket with her name on it somewhere buried in my basement. Heavens know why.
Here here! My dad was good friends with Billie Jean King professionally back in the 80s. I was raised on a steady diet of Billie Jean's awesomeness. (We even got Christmas cards from her!)
Although, as I was young, I never quite understood why Michael Jackson was singing that he wasn't her lover. I thought she was cool. (I kid, I kid)
@hfree: I grew up in a tennis family (my aunt actually played doubles with her before), and I really did think that about the MJ song. She was the only Billie Jean I knew of...
I think she'd have an argument if she could take the pitch of the grunt down from a shriek. I think the ladies have a tougher argument given that our voices pitch higher generally.
As one could probably tell from my comments in aggregate, I don't have a problem with the grunt in principle.

Still not a peep from him. Or a grunt...

I said don't mind, but what do you mean I am the one
Who will grunt on the court at Wimbledon.

Billie Jean is not a rocket scientist
She's just a girl who knows from experience
That looks mean way too much

Careful there, Mr. Deford. Don't want to come up with an original thought or anything.
