    I finally got my IUD put in this morning and it was pretty much like everyone here said. My cervix wanted me dead but gave up pretty quickly. It was the worst pain ever. I felt like I could cut open a body and tell you exactly where the cervix is because mine was screaming. About three minutes later, I felt pretty much fine. Just take a small handfull of motrin before you go and don't let the pain deter you if you are thinking of getting one.

    @linnyt is a walking cliché: I had a new one put in on Monday. I remembered how badly it hurt when I had the first one put in five years ago but I forgot about the STABBING PAIN that happens when it goes in.

    But just like you said, a few minutes and it was over and this time I had barely any cramping afterward. Plus, no babies for another 5 years!

    @AmbiguouslyStraightUno: The stabbing pain wasn't the worst part for me. That was bad though. The worst was "Ok, we're going to adjust this now." That really hurt. I have just the slightest cramping right now. I've had worse period cramps than this.

    @Ailatan: He gave a lecture at my college. It was kind of brilliant. At the end during the open question, a woman stood up and asked him out for a drink. He said, "Meet me back stage and we can work it out." Really deep stuff.

    EDIT: I had to come back and edit this post so you knew I was being sarcastic about it being brilliant. I mean it was amusing to listen to him discuss Gangsta rap with scholars, but his thesis completely fell apart under questioning.

    @Ailatan: It really made me angry because the lecture kind of focused on reconciling his past treatment of women and how he views authority now as opposed to then.
    Then some stupid chick had to stand up basically give him positive reinforcement for his stupid ass sexist beliefs.

    Here we put laurel leaves in some sauces, when you get the laurel, you do the dishes. Try that.

    Also, put some laxative in his share, if he has the shits he should be able to enjoy them a bit more :)

    @Ailatan: The laurel leaves are a BRILLIANT idea. I will hide them in my sister-in-law's plate, since she always conveniently shows up 10 minutes before dinner is served and happens to take a 30 minute smoke after everyone has eaten.

    Gah why does everything suck so hard today?! Why did the day start out at 5:50am with the dog noisily slurping on himself and waking me from a sound sleep? And then when I told him to go downstairs if he wanted to do that shit, he went downstairs only to turn around and immediately come back into our room and start slurping again? And then as I'm getting ready for work, Mr. Foibles calls, freaking out asking me when I'll get in here because the lot's full of cars and the office is full of people and the phone keeps ringing. So I hauled ass to get here and didn't even stop for coffee because the Starbucks is always so effing crowded and I didn't want to waste time, so I promptly got a caffeine-withdrawal headache. Then I realized I needed to use the can, which I can only do at home, if you know what I mean. So I waited till the desk was taken care of and everything settled down a bit and then I raced to Starbucks. There was no parking and there were about fifteen people in line. Anyway I got my goddamned coffee and raced home to go to the can. I felt better and then I came back to work. Since I got back, everything's just continued to suck-nothing's getting done and our lot is packed with cars that need our attention. There's just too much work and not enough time. I'm stressed and it's making me anxious. And I need to go buy colored pencils to make a puzzle-card for my niece and I only have eight dollars in my account. I'll get some dough later on but in the meantime I hate the feeling of emptiness in my checking account. It does not help me feel any more at ease. As I said, Gah! I need booze, I think.

    @Ailatan: Definite good food consumption planned for tonight. I'm thinking I'll go to Trader Joe's and get a parmesan-garlic baguette, some marinated mozzarella and some salami. Maybe some hummus or tzatziki. And I have a reserve of Blue Moon in my fridge so I'll get an orange to go along with those. So yeah, I have some tasty stuff to look forward to. Just have to get through this stupid-ass day first.

    In Argentina it is called "picada" lots of cold meats, bread, cheese and wine. It's similar to tapas but mainly with arthery clogging meats.

    Guys, there is a super-creepy, soft-talking, salt-and-pepper-haired Super who works in my office building. I am on guard every time he comes up to the office, or talks to me. I think he lives in the basement. I am not one for melodrama but I am scared to stay late in the office at night, for fear that he will come up here and bludgeon me to death.

    @Mary McCarthyite: the super at my office building is also creepy, he speaks in a tone of voice so low Barry White would be jealous. He's too friendly and calls me by a nickname, a nickname that's odd and kind of creepy.

    I'm polite and always say hello and goodbye, he did me a favour once when I left my wallet in the office and he put it away. I brought him some pastries as a thank you and ever since then I got the weird nickname.

    I think having too much time on your own can make you a bit odd.

    I hate sales people at clothing stores. Yesterday I went to buy a top for my mum, I have a black v-neck top with 3/4 sleeves my mum likes, so I wanted to get her something similar. I went to the place where I had bought the top and a Korean lady refused to show me the tops since "they are too small for you" I was annoyed and had to keep repeating "It's for somebody else" after two or three times I just said "show me the tops, maybe I want to buy them small for me!"

    I want to chalk up this to cultural differences, but the assistant at the shop wasn't Korean, she was just dim. And this sort of thing has happened before, the best/worst is that time I was window shopping and the assistant came outside and said to me "we carry larger sizes for your type"

    I hate people.

    @Ailatan: An assistant once said exactly that to me when I was shopping for jeans. Best of all, I was shopping because I had just lost some weight. I felt terrible and walked straight out. Now I'm older and grumpier, I'd probably say something arsey before leaving.

    @Ailatan: Worst assistant ever was one I met when shopping with my older sister. This was years ago, and my sister was 16 and shopping for a formal dress for a school function. She tries on a dress, and the saleslady - an older woman, 60ish - runs towards my sister, grabs her belly and says "Ooooh, someone likes their bread!"
    We laugh about it now, but at the time it was just awful.

    @Ailatan: i was shopping with my best friend, she was trying on a dress that looked AWESOME on her. the sales lady said something really rude about how she needed to lose weight before putting on that dress. she also tried to talk another girl out of buying a dress that looked amazing on her.

    i took her aside when my best friend went back into the changing room. also made sure that she didn't get a comission after my friend - rightfully - bought the dress.

    I once had a girl at a party tell everyone, " The store only carried really big sizes. Like so big they could have fit you (gestures to me)" It was fucking mortifying.
    Honestly though, I think most people just say those things because they honestly don't think of it as an insult, just a descriptor like tall, or blonde. Also, this kind of thing really might be cultural because it used to happen to me a lot when I lived in Germany.

    @yet i: I used to be very self-conscious about my weight and so, when ever someone would say something like that, I would let it slide because I thought I deserved it. Fat acceptance changed all of that. Now, I delight in making rude sales-people uncomfortable. I think they smell it on me though because they really don't fuck with me now.

    Seriously.... what a snoozefest. They tried to make the judging seem fair, but it was the wicked witch all along. And I hate that they cut Carol Hannah first. Bitches. She was so sweet and nice and her collection pieces were individually the most interesting.

    @curiousgeorgiana: THANK YOU! OMG, why did they not bring that up!??!?! It's been done before and it was better before. Althea's collection was more interesting to me than Irinia's, and I still didn't care for it.

    This whole season was really blah for me. Christian's season really just represented the peak for me. Jillian, Rami or him could all have run circles around these kids. At least Carol Hannah took some risks and had some colorful outfits.

    @KittyKittyCat: Agreed. I couldn't believe Kors didn't mention it considering how much he loved Jillian's hats.

    C.H.'s poof skirt was really cool and the 13th look was beautiful. I think she would make a good wedding dress actually! (A hint of that gorgeous teal color would be great on a wedding dress).

    And Season 4 for the win. Chris, Christian, Rami, Jillian, Sweet Pea. All so much better than the finalists tonight.

    The 3 of them unable to open the hotel room door pretty much summed up the season for me ;o).

    @KittyKittyCat: I stopped watching after the first couple episodes and have just been re-watching season 4. Not only are the participants a hell of a lot more talented, they're also a hell of a lot more interesting! Remember the weird lingerie designer who cries all the time, or the free-thinking yoga girl who spits on her clothes? Sooooo much more fun to watch! Plus, Christian! Let's pretend the new seasons just never happened.

    So, what's the proper response to a facebook status message that says: "I hope Obama gets h1n1 and dies." It's this aquaintence of mine who I keep around on Facebook because his statuses are, for the most part, completely batshit conspiracy theories that entertain me. Hoping someone will die seems a little excessive, but this is coming from the same guy who constantly believes the Obama-Hitler connection in all seriousness. Not sure what to do with this whackjob.

    I should be practicing.......6 hour rehearsal tomorrow, plus a two hour drive both ways, oh joy! THEN ANOTHER 6 hour rehearsal tomorrow, followed by a concert. And then Sunday.....oh joy!.........I have church. And another concert. And this thing called homework. And sleep. And cleanliness. And trying to remain sane.

    Just finished an epic Veronica Mars rewatch (for me) with my roommate (who was a V Mars virgin).

    a) I forgot how much I missed that show
    b) I forgot the rush that comes from converting another Veronica Mars fan (seriously, I'm like a Veronica Mars vampire, I suck out peoples's time, and then they turn into Veronica Mars groupies, too).
    c) Is Jason Dohring doing anything anymore? I miss that dude.

    Any other Veronica Mars fans around? When was the last time you did a rewatch?

    @Dodgergirl: Huge V. Mars fan. Though I actually still haven't finished the third season. I'm watching it with a friend, and I think we've been putting it off because we don't want it to end.

    It's probably the best teen show I've ever seen. It's clever and funny and way dark.

    @Dodgergirl: Ha! I tore through seasons 1 & 2 during the last few weeks. Just finished last weekend. It's such an amazing show, and I still get upset that they messed it up in season 3. I mean the characters are still there, and V Mars is still a great character, but the tension/drama just faded away.

    I'll probably rewatch season 3 eventually; it's probably (hopefully) better than I remember.

    @femaledwightschrute: My love for Weevil is true, so I end up forgiving the cheesiness and the really horrifically choreographed "fight scenes" they engage in.

    @girl.of.your.dreams: I actually haven't finished the third season either. It's strange. I remember being frustrated with the direction of the show about half-way through the year, and it was up against House, which I had just gotten into at the time, so I ended up picking House. Gotta finish what I started one of these days...

    Anyone have any tasty dip recipes? I want to bring something different to my department holiday party. Usually I do some sort of baked good/dessert, and I just don't feel like it this year. Any tasty recipes would be greatly appreciated!

    @AJ: Yes! BLT dip.

    Fry up some bacon (or use a package of real bacon bits like I do)
    Chop up 2 tomatoes
    Mix in 1 cup each mayo and sour cream (or more sour cream if you're like me and HATE mayo)

    Serve with either bread, toast points or tortilla chips. I've found most people prefer chips.

    We have this dip at nearly every party. It's sooo simple and a huge hit every time.

    My guacamole recipe, which always turns out really well:

    Mash up 4 avocados
    mix in
    --some chopped up cilantro, maybe like 1/4 cup.
    --2 diced roma tomatoes
    --about 1/2 a bunch of green onions, chopped
    --1 jalepeno, finely chopped
    --some kosher salt
    --juice from 1/2 a lime

    add in 1 avocado pit to keep it from turning brown.

    that's all! my measurements are imprecise, but i usually just play it by ear and go with what feels right. :)
