And suckier, tomorrow is Friday so I can't really call in. Also, it's the last weekend before Christmas and I need to go to the mall to get my mom's present and then wrap stuff.
I downloaded an updated version of firefox today.
My computer has been totally funky ever since.
Gah. I have such a love/hate relationship with technology.
I just went onto Twitter for the first time in two months and saw a tweet from Tracie about the bitchiest Jez commenter and I am dying to know who it is.
So, I never ate cheese that wasn't on pizza before moving in with my boyfriend. Now, I am addicted to black forest ham, swiss, spicy mustard and spinach all slammed together and melted in his George Forman grill from college.
@Penny: Try some Port Salut! And smoked gouda! Tillamook extra sharp cheddar! Cheese is so amazing, just writing about it makes me instantaneously crave it.
My coat is apparently not Northeast-winter-friendly, and I think it's time to get something huge and puffy and warm. Does anyone have any recommendations? I'm too cold to care what it looks like.
@NellMood: When I moved to a place that has a real winter, my mom got me a Lands End down-filled puffy jacket for my b-day. I'm not normally a fan of Lands End stuff, but the jacket is really warm without being too puffy. It's also a bit fitted (so that it doesn't look totally shapeless), but leaves enough room to accommodate bulky sweaters or layers.
@tallgirl-in-heels: @activearchivist is lovely, in a moist, fluffy sort of way: @ holden caulfield's (canadian) female doppelgänger: Thanks y'all. I don't think I can handle this winter without a better coat. This such an un-fun purchase.
I posted a Mint Juleps video earlier today, and a lot of people liked it. Here's another, with Ladysmith Black Mambazo. If you know of 20 better voices in the world, let me know.
I have an issue. I said the other day that our dog peed on the bed, but the past few days we've come home there have been big puddles in her bed. I am worried that she is having some kind of health issue, but I know nothing about dogs. She seems fine otherwise. She's 9. Any ideas???
@Penny: I hate to say it, but I think a trip to the vet's to eliminate any physical problems is the first step. If she's fine then you can start to address the behavioral problems.
@Penny: she could have a urinary tract infection? Is she peeing more often, and does she spot blood when she does? She could be developing dementia, older dogs sometimes forget what they were doing or how to do stuff properly. Or she might just like to pee in the bed: it's nice and soft. Does she sleep there also? If she was just marking territory she typically wouldn't pee so much. Is it possible she's leaking?
Thanks. My boyfriend is really stupid about taking her to the vet, but I might have to insist. She has never, according to him, peed anywhere inside, so this is unusual behavior.
Also, not to be gross, but I tried to wash our duvet and now my dryer smells like a homeless person pissed in it. How do I get the smell out?!?!?
@Penny: There's something you can buy at the chain pet stores that you can just pour right in with your laundry. I'll try to think of the name, but it comes in a big bottle, like bleach.
And if she hasn't had any problems before, I'd also guess bladder infection. Female animals are much more prone to them - just like humans!
@girl.of.your.dreams: Nature's Miracle? I bought some on the advice of my mom. I used most of it on our mattress but I threw some into the dryer so fingers crossed that it works.
@Penny: Wipe down the inside with diluted vinegar (several times--leave the door open and let it air dry). Or soak some towels in lemon juice and dry them in the offending dryer.
@Penny: There's several good products that make the smell go away. I have some lavender scented "Piss off" at home for puppy accidents.
Many older female dogs get pyometra, a possibly life threatening illness. Google it for more info and pictures, but be vary, the pictures a kind of graphic if you're on the sensitive side.
I leave tomorrow for grandparents' house for 11 days--secluded with 40 extended family members.
Strict Southern Baptists (mom's parents) and Roman Catholics (dad's parents). I will spend most of my time in church or mass, with very limited access to alcohol. The rest of the time I will be in the kitchen cooking surrounded by passive aggressive comments from all the women re: my weight gain, my unmarried status, my lack of producing grandchildren, my living in the liberal north, and heaven forbid--my going to law school.
@all: Thanks everybody. I've got my small miniature bottles of drinks and will be recording my rare species of family in a journal (per Lizard in the Wires suggestion). I will share my observations when I return.

Is it shameful or virtuous to have not ridden a rollercoaster? Of course not. And when you do ride a roller coaster, if you want to, then you have not "lost" any sort of "roller coaster virginity," you have simply gained an experience. One experience out of many.
So no, nothing to be ashamed of at all. Most people will eventually have sex. Hopefully at the time that is right for them. Until then, the only thing that can be said is that they have not had sex yet. It seems ridiculous to attach any value judgement to that!
@activearchivist is lovely, in a moist, fluffy sort of way: Definitely not. It wasn't until I lost my virginity that I realist what bullshit this line of thinking is. Sex is really not a big deal. My life was not divided into before and after. Anyone who judges you negatively because you haven't lost your virginity (or alternatively, thinks you're some paragon of virtue) probably has messed up ideas about sex.
(By the way, I believe Tina Fey lost her virginity around your age. She ended up married to that guy. Oh, and she's fucking Tina Fey. You're fine.)
If you just want to have sex, by the way, it's not too hard to find. If you want to find love, it's way harder, but if you're feeling epically sexually frustrated, and ready, I would just find someone (through the internet or another network), be safe, and just do it. Or ask a guy friend.
Does anyone else sink into a depression after the holidays? It's gotten to the point where I understand why people don't want to celebrate because having to face another 300 days of the year bums me out so much.
@Mary McCarthyite: Man, I must have missed that one! And probably wouldn't have made it anyway, as I'm technically a Jersey Jezebel and it's a long trip from Brooklyn. *sigh*
I have a co-worker with a Tone of Voice problem who can be incredibly bitchy for no reason. For the past two days she has been especially appalling. Earlier, I sent her an email asking her a question about another co-worker (who works in a different office), and she responded outloud: "I mean, does your phone work? Why can't you just call him?"
Hi. I've been working here for almost 6 years. I know how to call people. The reason I asked her is because I thought she would know right away.

Some simple vitamin C can help if it's just a bladder infection, but get it checked out just in case.
