I never understand why people on reality TV don't think there's any option between "I didn't come here to make friends, I came to win," and "I'm going to be a passive-aggressive nasty piece of work." Then again, you could probably amend that to "I don't understand people on reality TV."
But meh, she was pretty blah as a PR villian. Here's hoping season 7 isn't so freaking dull.
@SharonTaint: Wait, really? Is this the same design cross-over that Tim called her about on the first half of the finale, or did something come out after the show aired?
@PipPipCheerio: She stole the entire text of a New York Magazine article, titled "Reasons to love New York" and justified it by saying that it didn't really have an author since they interviewed New Yorkers and that she contributed to it by adding ONE line of her own invention.
It wasn't even bold bitchy. It was behind-the-back bitchy. Under-the-breath comments and furtive eyerolls don't count. She wasn't willing to say much to anyone's face (except for accusing Althea of copying her like every episode towards the end).
To be a real bitch, you need to have a large set of ovaries, and to me, this girl doesn't. Making an all-black collection, especially one that's not even very exciting and relies on equestrian hats, sweaters with holes in them, and t-shirts you ripped off someone else doesn't make you ... eggsy? (Somehow that just doesn't have the same ring to it as "ballsy" but whatever.)
@Hana Maru: Yes. I agree. That's why I used "ovaries"as the analogy ... and tried out the word "eggsy." If you prefer gutsy, that's cool too, but I like the idea that one's reproductive organs are a source of said "guts" and in my case, that's ovaries. That being said, thanks @Falen, I'm going to start using "Ovesy" from now on!!
I don't think anyone can deny that the other two were a lot more likeable than her, but I see why she won. That plaiting and weaving thing she does looks really clever and well crafted and she even knits, that's always a winner in my book.
The bitchy didn't bother me as much as the whining. It seemed like every single episode she complained about every other contestant. She does realize that fashion designers actually have to work with people, doesn't she?
@IBleedGlitter: The High Priestess of Tinsel: Ohmygosh, this clip just provided some much needed perspective for *me.* My attitude about Irina has been well sure she's catty but at least it makes for watchable television. Ugh, Irina could not even hold a candle to Santino's entertainment factor. Who could forget Tim and Annndre's dates at the red lobster. Now that was good tv.
Right, because an article compiled of quotes from random New Yorkers and then printed by a magazine means it's not stealing when you reprint it without their permission. Girl needs a lesson on copyright, plagiarism, and fair use.
Her excuses for the t-shirts are nonsense. In the episode she presents it as her original idea, then she gets exposed and suddenly it's 'Oh, I totally had this idea and THEN the magazine came out with this issue that just sort of helped me add more ideas"? Easily verifiable facts there, since the issue came out in December 2008 and the Bryant Park show was months later. No amount of retconning is going to make this work. If the show editing is to be believed, she had a few days to put the shirts together. Just own up to the fact that you used a source material and couldn't come up with something on your own in the brief amount of time you had!
@Ms.Moneypenny: I didn't get the sense she only had a few days to fix her problem. I thought Tim called her shortly after his visit, which was some time before the actual runway show. That was my sense of the timing, anyways.
@PrettyB is like Whoa: I'm pretty sure there was a blurb at the bottom when Tim called that said "Ten Days to Bryant Park" Because at the time I was thinking 'There is no way she's going to be able to come up with something new in that amount of time"
And it still doesn't explain her rationale that the magazine came out as she was working on her idea.
can't we do spoilers after the cut for this shit? this always happens. i'm watching a show the NEXT day, and checking jezebel at the same time, and then the show becomes pointless. :(
@Porcelina: Not true. The spoiler concept predates DVRs. People used to videotape shows, and schedules are delayed in different countries. As long as people have discussed TV on the internet, there have been spoiler warnings for aired shows.
It wouldn't hurt to have an ambiguous title or put the spoiler behind the jump.
Sad. Usually jez is so good about saving the spoilers for after the jump for those of us who have not been able to get to the dvr yet. *sigh* I guess it's back to avoiding the interwebs whenever a reality show hits the finals.
@Porcelina: Um, yes it is. If you reveal the key parts of a book, movie, TV show, etc to someone who hasn't yet had a chance to read/watch - that's a spoiler. If I tell you the ending of a book you haven't yet read, is it not a spoiler because the book's already been published? Of course not.
It wouldn't be hard to have a link on the front page that didn't give the result away to those who hadn't seen it yet. Some of us aren't in the US and have to wait to watch shows, some people are watching on DVR. It's just courtesy.
i know she's meana irina, but this collection is by far the best that has ever been shown by a PR contestant on the show finale. it was creative, had a point of view, and the styling was excellent.
@starke: the best *ever* shown? that's a stretch. i definitely thought it was more cohesive that last night's other options. but i'll take christian and leanimal any day over irina's collection.
@starke: Yeah, gonna agree with everyone else on this one...absolutely NOT the best ever. If this had been a top three with Irina, Christian Siriano, and Leanne, Irina would have been the first one out.
