    I am currently rocking an eyepatch thanks to a double vision issue and some other eye issues. I think it makes people leave me the fuck alone when I go walking downtown. It's awesome.

    I was reading that pirates didn't actually wear eye patches because they were blind in one eye--it was because when they were pillaging, they needed to be prepared to leap from bright, sunlit conditions down into the dark cargo holds of ships. So with the patch, they'd have one eye that was already adjusted to nearly complete darkness. Once they went from eye-searing brightness to the dimly lit cargo holds of ships, they could just flip the patch up and continue swashbuckling undeterred, while their hapless victims had to struggle to get used to the different light conditions.


    But it was on the internet. So it might not be true.

    I have a suede eyepatch with a parakeet bedazzled on it. It makes me look both fragile and interesting at the same time. In order to confuse people, I wear it on my left eye on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday, and on my right eye on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Sunday, of course, is cleaning day and it is not worn.
