    I just about did a spit-take when I read this because Marc Tuttle, this Marc Tuttle, is my ex-boyfriend. He married a friend of mine from high school. They're both sweet and fun and hilarious people who I have not seen since I left our college town years ago, but I think back fondly on them both.


    It's things like this that remind me that I can disagree -- even vehemently, as here! -- with someone on an important issue, but still care about them very much. I'm not defending his words or position on this case in specific, or on the larger issues in general. I suspect I have changed a lot since college -- and from his apparent position, it looks like he has too.


    (But holy crap, my ex is on Jezebel! Ha! And not for CEFAD!)

    @booktart: Dang, that's crazy. I feel you on the changing a lot since high school. My high school BF was uber conservative, and I was pretty conservative as well. But then we broke up, and I got to college and whenever he would IM me we'd almost always end up arguing over politics because he would agree with Rick Santorum on gay people or some such.

    What really laces my corset about this is when fundies pose the quasi thought provoking question, "If Mary were pregnant today, would Jesus have been aborted?" (then an eyebrow raise and a smug, your turn look)


    The answer, assclown, is of course not. If God Himself impregnated Mary, you'd think that he'd make that kid abortion resistant. Aborting Jesus would be next to impossible due to the fact that he is literally Baby God.

    Has anyone else watched the video? It's clear that that woman is struggling with every inch of her being to do the right thing, whatever that is (not that that's any excuse). I'd also be curious to see all the bits that were clearly edited out. Like, right before she says 'I don't want to know his age'- what happened for 60 seconds before that?

    As one of maybe, oh... SEVEN liberal, pro-choice Indiana residents, I am ashamed of the crazy anti-choicers and they lengths they go to to our own uteruses (uteri?).


    95% of PP's services are something OTHER than abortion, yet that's all these whackos can focus on. What about cervical cancer screenings? HIV tests? Breast exams? Does the baby Jesus hate ALL aspects of our vulvas??

    Actually that nurse was supposed to report that. As a health official she's considered to be a mandated reporter. If this situation had been real, she would have been breaking Indiana law by not informing the teen's parents but also allowing the "child" to potentially return to a sexually abusive relationship.

    Think about it, if it really WAS a pregnant 13-year girl, her life could be in danger of the man that impregnated her. She was only putting the girl's health and safety first.

    @Shamrockette: I do too and sometimes reporting it isn't always in the best interest of the victim. Not saying that you shouldn't report child molestors but sometimes its too much for the victim.

    Not reporting the sexual abuse of a 13 yo was plain wrong. WTF was that nurse thinking??


    However the gift certificates are a great idea and how dare the fundies try to lay total claim to the Christmas holiday! Everyone knows Christmas is just as much about secular consumerism as the birth of Christ (to a WED mother) these days!

    @water baby: My exact sentiments! Maybe the GCs are being used to obtain preventative birth control, or annual cervical exams. GRR. Don't assume everyone who visits a PP is going to have an abortion.
