I sat and watched the returns here in Thailand. There was not a dry eye in the tiny restaurant during Obama's acceptance speach. Truly an amazing, moving day!

@nescafe: I care! I'm not American, and like the majority of the rest of the world I'm very glad Obama won, but this is kind of spoiling it for me. Especially the fact that the same people who elected Obama also banned gay marriage. Not that ready for change, after all?

@h4nn4h: I'm Israeli. I'm in California though, and Prop 8 is something that affects my friends personally. People are understandably overjoyed about the first black prez, but what about gay rights? Hello? Why no live blog about those results? It's like no one gives a shit. Obama mentioned gay people in his acceptance speech, so I hope he starts taking a stand on this sometime soon. The election is over and there is nothing holding him back now, he can go ahead and "offend" people who hate homosexuals. I hope he cares enough. Help us, dude!

@Penultima: Excuse me, this site has always been against the use of the word "va jay jay". Don't you know ANYTHING?

We prefer words like vagina, clitoris, labia majora, labia minora oh and preputium clitoridis/clitoral prepuce. GET IT RIGHT.

This is the most wonderful, pure, and joyful I have ever felt. I am proud of my country, of my fellow citizens, and of my new president. I have a leader that I truly believe in. I go to bed tonight knowing that I will wake tomorrow on a new world, in a future I have been dreaming of all my life.

@onestrawplz: I teach at a university in the Midwest and if my students don't show up tomorrow, I don't care. If you want to skip my class tomorrow because of this historic election and the craziness of celebrating, all I can say is, "Yes you can!"

@zora: I wishhhh I could skip class but I've got econ in the morning and that's my major so I don't have a lot of a say in whether or not to skip. I asked my prof in my last class for permission to skip today because I had class straight from like 12:30-7 pm with only an hour break, not long enough to head to the polls, and he was like "Of course! If you vote, you're allowed to complain!" So I love awesome professors who let students skip on such a historic day.

I was looking after a friend's dog (post-back surgery) so she could go to the rally (she lives one block from Grant Park). It was like the Cubs/White Sox/Bears/Bulls/Blackhawks had won championships, with people milling about, smiling, honking horns, and whooping with joy.

It's no secret that I prefered McCain, but I don't deny anyone their enjoyment of this historic victory, and I wish President-elect Obama well. May he lead our country with wisdom and care.
