For verification, you need only stop off at the nearest mid- to large-sized law firm. There will be an inordinate amount of dick-waving and one-upmanship. If you don't have a dick, you're screwed. Ha. You must act like a man if you want to succeed. Otherwise, you can be eternally competent, and at your annual review your feedback will consist of, "Well, the staff loves you!" Because the partners are all aged frat boys, and mother-effers.

Had this study been about ladymag editors, the opposite would have been true. The nastier, more neurotic and less talented a gal is, the higher she goes up the corporate ladder, where she proceeds to dig her stiletto heels into the faces of the conscientious, unneurotic suckers below. I don't think open to new experiences has to be a bad thing. I would consider someone inflexible if they had hard and fast rules about what they will & won't do, of course in a work context and not a moral context. I have worked with certain inflexible people, and let's just say they make you want to kill them.
