Man he has an ability unmatched by any chick-flick movie to make me tear up.

Instead, I dare you to read Monstrous Regiment by Terry Pratchett. That's a much better use of your time.

"Dig ourselves out of this recession."
It's on.

In lieu of FDR's fireside chats, how about surf side chats from now on?

Now Obama is breaking tradition, skipping over TV and going directly over to the internet. It's a good step in getting the public more involved in their government.

Although the thought of Michelle and the inclusion of one of their precious daughters is a bit of a lady-cockblock.

Leadership does work. Our ancestors likely didn't move out of the cave of their own accord. Some busybody goaded them into it. So it goes with the rest of history. The masses are content with the status quo until someone turns them around. And that's what we have here.
I know it was in some south of the border country where a city experimented with a voluntary tax. And guess what? Many people paid it.
Most people actually enjoy helping others, there've been a few studies done to confirm this. They just need to be given the opportunity and infrastructure to do so. And that's where our new president comes in. A big part of his message during the election has been the need for people to get involved. Given how the election turned out, I think people like that message.

I actually think the opposite will occur. A higher tax rate will probably encourage more to give to charity and reinvest in communities. You'd be surprised how much money people give away.

If you were really talking about investing, there would be a return on the investment, ie. money. So, if you want people with money to invest with you, you better stop promising them some sort of return---in cash.

No one will argue that this was an historic election. Not even just in terms of how it fulfilled some of the hopes of the Civil Rights Movement, but also in how it proved that a disenfranchised voter base can be reintegrated into the political process. If Obama is able to deliver, many of those first time voters will be back. If he isn't, we will have to work even harder to get them involved in the future.
So, I guess we will see what happens. I am hoping that a New New Deal does materialize along with these web 2.0 fireside chats.

And schools? More money improves school buildings, but not schooling. Buying a plasma for the teacher's lounge won't help Johnny read.

Interesting enough, these were the EXACT same type of people who volunteered countless hours on his campaign.

(This coming from someone who has grown up with several generations of teachers, who teach in and have taught in public AND private education, and as someone who has attended both public and private schools.)
