Oh, Catholic church. You have provided me with many an enthusiastic sex partner, and I assure you, none of them were married. Time to own up you might be a leeeeetle behind on the sexual health issues of the day.
@HokeyPokey: man, I had a friend debate to me about prop 8 (which she supported because she got a "sick feeling in her stomach" *rolls eyes*) saying she looked it up when I told her that and said it wasn't there AND that if it is it's for the CHURCHES benefit (wtf?).
@DeviSama: Separation of church and state is for the benefit of the churches to at least some extent. It prevents the government from mandating a religion, thereby allowing people to choose their own religion and to practice it freely.
The Catholic Church needs to realize that most people in this country support abortion (in cases of rape and incest that is). They're actually shocked that more and more people are leaving the church? They need to get with the times and leave the archaic moral code where it belongs. And this is kind of pointing out the obvious but I get SO pissed whenever there's some sort of controversial issue and immediately there's some comment on whether Catholic Church approves of it. Maybe it's cause I'm a heathen New Yorker, but I could really give two shits what anyone up in Vatican City thinks I should do with my body.
@lastbroadcast: Heck, I'm actually Catholic, and I couldn't care less what they think. They aren't women, for one thing, and they have no conception of how people actually live, particularly in the US. And after the priest sex abuse scandal, they can't teach me a thing about a moral path of life.
@lastbroadcast: I was raised Catholic, and many of the Catholics I hold near and dear (like my parents) are pro-choice. They couldn't care less what the Church hierarchy says, and I think these sorts of things are making the Church look a lot more uptight than it's adherents.
@Liz11685: This. Grandfather's eldest of 13 Irish Catholics, heck my dad even trained to be a Priest (I still haven't got out of him why he stopped, which means its uberfuckingbad as he's told me pretty much everything else), but they both rock the "Women can do what they want with their bodies" school of thought.
I've even heard pro-Gay sentiments from the grandfather... that is frikkin WEIRD. In a good way :)
@hegemone: Ditto. I don't think that's what the article said. Also, a large chunk of the article talks about what would happen if Catholic hospitals were forced to perform abortions (they would close rather than do them). I think that's a lot more interesting than the points highlighted here, which just seem sort of inflammatory comment bait. (Sorry, Megan, I normally love everything you post.)

And there will just be more and more of this crap from the Church as long as Benedict the Backwards is pope.
