Is it me, or does Gloria Vanderbilt sound like probably the coolest mother in the world? Someone needs to write a book about her and her famous son, except it needs to be fictionalized, so we can have AC as god intended him--a fastidiously dressed, only-publicly closeted silver-fox gay man who has frequent (yet loving) gin-Gimlet fueled arguments with his fabulous mink-stole-wearing 85-yo erotica-writing mom. I'd read it!
@Diziet_Sma: "Putting someone to shame" means to be better at something than someone else, and it's said in a jokey way. He doesn't mean it in the super serious, bringing shame upon the family way. Lighten up, maybe?
I've never seen Jon & Kate Plus Eight, but it seems like a lot of blogs like to attack Kate--call her crazy, bitchy, whatever... But I just don't get it. Why, after a split, is he allowed to move into a two-bedroom apartment and start dating while she's still dragging around eight kids? From what I can see (which is, admittedly, not very much), she's taking on all the responsiblity and getting the majority of the hatred. Why? Why don't they both have to be parents? I know, I know, that's just how it works ... but it makes me kind of angry.
@miggery sow: Different standards for mothers and fathers. Plus, until the split, Kate's "bad behavior," for lack of a better term, was of the more obvious variety - screaming, short temper, etc. While Jon was a passive-aggressive jackass, which for some reason is more OK. Personally I've always hated him and felt sorry for her being saddled with him.
@miggery sow: Both Jon and Kate are planning on moving into apartments part-time. The kids will stay at the house, and the parents will alternate staying with them. It makes sense to me.
As for "being allowed to date," I imagine she's allowed to date too--she's just choosing not to.
@Maritsa: Does it matter where it is? As long as he spends as much time with his kids as he agreed to do in the custody arrangement, I don't see why it's an issue. He clearly has the money to make the commute. He's probably got the time, too. It wouldn't be my choice, but as long as he spends the time with the kids that he's promised to spend, I don't see why this is worthy of anyone's judgment.
"Which perennial bachelor princeling should be more careful? While His Serene Highness was cavorting on a yacht in the Mediterranean with a hunky guy, he thought the servants on board would keep their mouths shut. He was wrong."
@Ailatan: I don't even know if any other royal familes use the HSH title. If it's not Prince Albert, it's someone that most Americans have never heard of.
"Uninsurable" was a weird word to use in that sentence w/r/t Mischa Barton, especially in the context that she's suicidal. "She wants to kill herself, and what's worse, SHE CAN'T EVEN GET INSURANCE."
@morninggloria: I think that means that she can't get an acting job, cause the studios can't take the financial risk that she'd OD or freak out in the middle of shooting
@morninggloria: Uninsurable on the set, so can't get work, which presumably might have been one of the causes for her current mental state. Nonetheless, still not really the point, is it?
@morninggloria: It's referring to a completion bond. All film & tv productions have to have insurance in case something threatens to shut down production, all will not be lost and investments are protected.
Many actors have been considered "uninsurable" at times (notably Robert Downey Jr.) but actors can and do turn things around and reinvigorate their careers.
While it's probably a correct statement, it's a horrible thing to say publicly while this girl is going through such a rough time.

And Amelia Earhart's scarf going into space is oddly moving and poetic. #frankmccourt

That's an awful thing to say about your kid, Jackie Chan. Even in the context of film-publicity bullshit. All of a sudden, you're not so lovable.
