Well, it isn't like Vogue has had too many WHITE models on its covers lately, either. Magazines seem to prefer celebrities now.

They should teach everyone how to do black hair at Hairdressing institutes. There is no excuse not to know anything about it especially if you're in the profession.

@maladroite: Ditto make-up artists. I can't tell you how many times I've had to explain to someone at the MAC/Bobbi Brown/Trish McEvoy counter that NO I cannot put the dark color in the crease of my eyelid seeing as there isn't one. I mean, surely there are some other techniques? Isn't that why you have training?

@MizJenkins: Honestly, it's not like it takes more than 5 minutes with a YouTube account to learn how to properly apply eye makeup regardless of creases. I mean shit, I don't even DO makeup professionally and I still know how to do eye makeup if there's no crease! (I learned so I could do some custom shit for my Sims but my point still stands!)

Yes! When I first moved to Boston I was calling around and when I asked, "Do you do black hair?" one salon said, "Well, we prefer if you come in with it straight." So...you can't wash my hair? So, the answer would be, "No." You can't do black hair!!!! Just say that! Gaaahhhh.

@maladroite: Exactly! Having a specialty is one thing; most stylists have a hair type or service they do best (curls, straight, highlights, etc.). But knowing nothing about a hair type just makes you look bad at your job; it's a wonder they're not more embarrassed to admit it.
