And frankly, this bish is pissing me off. I'm a nutrition major. I've been spending the last four years of my life studying nutrition and she is out there spewing lies and lies and lies. And honestly, if she's not a Registered Dietitian or someone who at least has a BS in Nutrition...I don't wanna hear a damn thing she's saying. She's not fully educated in the subject and therefore she should shut her fucking mouth.
Does she know nothing about moderation? About balanced eating? About what nutrients a body needs and in what proportions? PEOPLE NEED FAT. PEOPLE NEED CARBS. Food should be a nutrient-dense, yet ENJOYABLE experience. If you want people to choose healthy options, make it enjoyable to eat them.
She's not fighting obesity, she's promoting disordered eating. Making my future job and the future/current jobs of my colleagues that much harder. The more nut jobs like her go around spewing their uneducated views of "healthy eating" the more nutritionists and dietitians have to fight to get people to stop believing everything they hear, fad dieting, etc. and start going for balanced nutrition.
/end rant.

Who are the Obesity Task Force? A lobby group that gets most of its funding from the makers of weight loss drugs. The change in the US was pushed by them and the American Obesity Association?
Who are the American Obesity Association? A lobby group that gets funding from Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig, etc.
Not that there aren't people out there who need to lose weight for legitimate health reasons, but for some reason, call me a tad cynical, but I don't think people who have a financial stake in making people feel fat (and therefore need to lose weight!) are the best sources for information about obesity.
Now, I don't know where the National Action Against Obesity gets its funding (google has failed me thus far,) but I wouldn't be surprised if they were yet another lobbying front for the diet industry.
So, yeah, whatever MeMe. You keep doing what you do, you nutjob killjoy, and we'll keep on ignoring and/or mocking you.

As a former rape crisis counselor, I can tell you that one of the hardest issues that some survivors have to deal with is the fact that they were moist, or even climaxed, in the course of their assault. For people who survived childhood sexual abuse, some have to struggle the fact that "it felt good" both in the sense that they were grateful for the attention, and/or in the sense that being touched "there" may have given them a pleasurable sensation.
So, though it's not strictly on-topic, it's kind of become a topic through the comments, and I want to say:
If this is your experience: THIS DOES NOT MEAN YOU WERE NOT RAPED. THIS DOES NOT MEAN YOU DESERVED IT, WANTED IT, "ENJOYED IT."
It means that the body responds to stimuli, and that we are far more complicated, physically and emotionally, than we like to admit. If this was your experience and you are questioning yourself: Please, please talk to a rape crisis center about it. They will help. Here's a link to a national hotline: [www.rainn.org]

Even so, its no wonder that kids end up with eating disorders when groups like this and women like in this article are so prevalent in the media.
I don't like how society at large seems to think that singling out overweight people is ok. I'm all for being healthy, and I've struggled with weight issues my whole life, but there's a point when people just need to STFU and get over it. Food akin to rape? That's taking it way too far. This woman ought to be laughed out of town. Instead she actually has an audience?

I saw a piece on them in Newsweek a few years ago. The guy was like, "well, I'm cold all the time, my libido is gone completely, and I don't eat anything all day, but I will live 100 years or more." Wow, that sounds like a really awesome life! And a super-fun person to be around, too, I bet.

We shouldn't use those terms to criticize anyone -- for instance, when we were justifiably angry with Rush Limbaugh for yelling about Nancy Pelosi's looks, a lot of comments went down the "have you looked at a mirror lately?" path, and that's not helpful.
But try to look at all the useful, supportive, and smart comments here. Most of them are all that and more.

I hear what you're saying and I think you're right. I think that it's important that nobody feels shame about their bodies.

Methinks there's something a little more deep-seated about her relationship with food.

Either way, to quote and interpret happenings in a way that is not supported with actual research seems irresponsible, if not downright harmful, considering that people will listen based on their emotional triggers. If presented as anecdotal, and yet unsupported with one's own story, the result is still irresponsible, and just spouting off without merit. IMO.

Seriously.
