@Pandorasvoicebox: Ah, I can't resist! Crusty French roll with cracked pepper Boar's Head turkey, white cheddar, sprouts, lettuce, tomato, avocado, pesto mayo...crap, now I must have one.
Something Mr. Sad Tomato will never live down, although we joke about it now . . . instead of asking me to make him a sandwich he once said "Looks cloudy. Do you think it's going to start raining sandwiches?"
Well, my retort would be based on how the question was posed. If it actually was "Go make me a sandwich" my response would not be a verbal one. Instead, I would serve up one of my famous "Looks", in particular, the one where I just give the Stare. The Stare is exactly what it sounds like; it's so effective it doesn't even require any eyebrow accompaniment. It can, depending on the severity of the occasion, include just one single, solitary eyeblink. A sort of slowed-down version of a normal eyeblink. It can't be described, really. It's just something you'd have to see. It makes Mr. Foibles hunch up his shoulders and run away. Obviously this is the desired effect. Anyway, if it was posed as a polite request, I might oblige. But only if I felt like making one for myself too.
I don't know what I'd say, but for inspiration on what I'd do? I'd use that scene from "The Prince of Tides" where the wife gets so pissed at her husband she cooks him some dog food for dinner, and he tells her it's the best hash he's ever had.
What I would like to say, if I were clever enough to comment cooly on impossible/useless normative gender roles in the heat of a hissy fit: "Go hunt me a bison."
What I would probably actually say, because it's what I would be thinking about anyway: "Go make me a margarita."

But I agree....sometimes, if he's had a long day and I'm not busy, I'll just make the sandwich! Bad feminist?
