I wonder if ole' Bin Laden is sitting in a bunker somewhere giggling over the Bush's dead cat. Seems to me his life can't be all that exciting at the moment, what with having to put up with being the world's most wanted man and all.

I am so emotional about pets dying that when my mom recently mentioned her cat, who died at least year ago, I got teary-eyed. The cat has been dead for a year and it wasn't even my own cat.

So a cat dying of natural causes and someone being sarcastic about the fact that it makes for headline news is not funny, but a man being murdered by having his penis set on fire is a laugh riot. Look, I love animals, and lost my own cat a few months ago, but this is still too much of a disconnect for me.

@aubonpam: Yeah, I have to agree. Granted, I'm not the biggest animal-lover (though my stepfamily is completely wrapped up in their pets, and I know how important animals can be to people), but people should take precedence. There is something particularly heinous about torturing innocent animals (like innocent babies, they are defenseless), but this cat died quietly at a pretty good old age. And the whole country was informed by a press release. For a cat, that is excessive, and the sarcasm is totally understandable to me. Their countrymen are dying around them every day and the American president is sending out press releases about his cat dying? I can hardly be horrified that they find that bizarre. Sarcasm and hilarity over the brutal attack and murder of a human is much more revolting, yet we seem to be more okay with that here. Why?

@Claire Buoyant: I think senses of humour in general are different. Because as much as I love my pet and don't think it's "nice" to be an asshole about someone's cat dying, I think their comments are pretty damn funny. Also funny, the idea of militants being preoccupied with making sarcastic comments about someone's cat dying. To me, it's funny.
