@labeled: The tethers are attached to the electronic scoring devices so when they make a point it shows up on a screen. Helps the judges.

@choufleur: I am so envious of those of you with the ability to edit - mine gives me a "You can only edit within 15 minutes" message - even if it's only a minute later. le sigh. But I trust it'll be up and running soon. I'm finally getting the hang of the whole posting thing (HINT: do not read comments and get sucked in before clicking "view all comments" or whatever) but I miss the collapsible comment thread bubble things, to be honest. And I think I hated them when they first rolled out!

@choufleur: Having fenced all 3 weapons, I can say that sabre is in fact better. You don't have to wait a million years for things to happen. You don't even have to start the timer. Hell, when I fenced epee I was so good at it because I fenced it like a sabrist and all those slowpoke epeeists weren't expecting it MWAHAHAHAHA.

And when you are as short as I am, tall guys ended up with a number of crotch-shots from my sabre blade. Mostly unintentional. Mostly.

We did fenced at my all girls' school. The fencing master had to gently chide us in our first lesson that we were supposed to move backwards and forwards and not chase each other around the room like extras from an Errol Flyn movie. We also felt going for the bare neck whenever the mask slipped up was fair game. Whoever said the female of the species is deadly than the male had obviously watched us fence.
