Is it cynical of me not to be incredibly overwhelmed? 1004:1000 in New Dehli is approaching normalcy, but given how long many Indian states have been running 800:1000, I don't think this can be considered the reversal of a devastating trend just yet.

@Maritsa: No, just a lot of good ol' fashioned racism ("India is a very sick nation. The culture, such that it is, doesn't merit even half the sanitized nonsense most people are fed with.") and crazy. ("Obviously they are doing selective abortions on boys now, since naturally there would be between 51 and 53 boys for every 50 girls born. That is the natural range of sex ratios for humans.")

@westvillagegirl (exiled in chicago): I wish I read your warning before... I think there should be an added warning on jezebel's link.
It's horrifying. My parents, both born and raised in India were completely overjoyed with their only two children being daughters. My Dad, of course feels ganged up on when the three of us go on feminist rants. I don't blame him, but I don't think most Indian families would rather have sons, at least since I was born I haven't met with any pro-male parenting from the Indian community. I'd like to think times have been changing for a while.
