@KentuckyBabe: WTF? I actually think piercing babies ears is worse. I love animals (I am a vegetarian) and all but I am still more disturbed when people are harmed.
That this is the first post that mentions human babies, and then says kittens being pierced is WORSE. This actually disturbs me.
Did you know that here in the UK people give more money every year to animal and pet charities than to those that help people? Sorry folks, but I find that totally effed up.
And I say all this as an animal lover. I think the problem is that people aren't cute and furry enough. Somebody needs to make some Yeti babies or something...
I don't understand why this outrages people who eat meat, wear fur (fyi, a lot of "fox" fur is actually cat fur), use products tested on animals (do you think they put mascara on the cute bunnies' eyelashes? They heat that shit up and fucking *spray it in their clamped-open eyes*), etc.
I mean, I understand why it outrages people. But I don't understand being okay with the rest of the list.
Those poor kittehs. I really hope they can find a gentle and loving home where no one will hurt them like that.
And ditto on adopting black cats. I have a tuxedo girl, which obviously isn't all black, but she had been in the shelter for a while and broke my heart.
I gave $20 to the humane society a week or so ago, and this makes me want to give more.
I cannot save them all, though. And I hate that. A lot.
What the eff is wrong with some people?! @TheCatlady: Declawing is horrible. I am firmly, firmly opposed to it. There are other humane ways to ensure your cat does not claw your furniture. My couch is not as important as my animal's health and well-being.
@TheCatlady: I don't think Jezebel is a pro-declawing community. We're too smart for that. I impressed the woman at the shelter by going off on my rant about how disgusting declawing is and how they cut off the first knuckle, not just the nail, and it's disgusting and many cats start to bite instead and blahblahblah and she instantly warmed up to me. Conversely, I make people hate me at parties.
I'm not at all in favor of gothing up the kittens, but how more or less cruel is this than docking a puppy's tail or ears for the same aesthetic purpose? Is it merely a matter of social norms and acceptance, just as in people?
For the record, I don't believe in docking puppy tails or ears either, or in declawing cats.
i had to put my black kitty to sleep yesterday and this is making me cry all over again. worse, the vet assistant told me her kitty was a rescue who'd had its tail broken and its body burned with cigarettes. rot in hell, all of you assholes.
@del_ruby: YES! That was my first thought exactly - what's the difference between this and the way many purebreds get chopped up for their owners' aesthetic tastes?
What the hell was she thinking? Did it not occur to her someone would find her website and turn her in. And neck piercing?? Dear God! I had a boyfriend who wanted one of those and he was told they can do it but a piercing in a place like that never heals, its always an open wound and at risk for infection. This means you have to be very careful about cleaning it...and she's selling them to random people on the internet. Poor kitties. I say punishement should be spine/neck piercings for every one piercing she doled out. Maybe she's get a few infected and die...sorry animal cruelty just makes me so angry
Thanks ladies, he seems to get sick every year at Christmas. I think he might be Jewish or Muslim or something. And yes, I totally gave my boy cat a girl name, well my roommates and I did. I tell everyone it's French for Martin (which is my stepdad's name who found him).

i'm pretty sure we all find declawing and piercing and docking cruel and inhumane.
You would be surprised...

I think I'll go give my two kids a squeeze. Millie's a nine-year-old torbie and Harley is a 3.5-month-old ginger.
