At Costume Institute Gala, Bad Tries To Triumph Over Good; Fails

In case you need a refresher: Last night. Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute. Superhero theme. Every celebrity and fashion designer in the world. Some people looked Good, some people looked Ugly. But in between there were the Bad, which included Sarah Silverman, left, Beyonce, Blake Lively, Eva Amurri, Eva Longoria, Jennifer Connolly, Kristin Davis, Jennifer Lopez, Tamara Mellon, Mary J. Blige, and Kate Bosworth. All those and others, after the jump.

The Bad:
The feathers! The gloves! Serena would not approve, Blake Lively.
Yes, the dress is nice enough. But I just can't take seeing Beyonce in one more "Beyonce" dress. Does the girl know no other silhouettes?!
Why must you hurt your boobies and toes, Eva Amurri???
Too much and not in a good way, Longoria.
Apologies to Eva Mendes but I just hate that color.
I think Gisele looks a little more trashy than classy.

Speed Racer: Another Premiere, Another Hot Shot Of Eva Amurri

For the love of God: How many Speed Racer premieres is Warner Bros. scheduling?! The latest took place on Friday night as part of the Tribeca Film Festival. By now you know the routine: Christina Ricci, Emile Hirsch, Susan Sarandon, Miles Robbins, Eva Amurri, and that cute little kid who is also in the movie. But since this was the Tribeca Film Festival, there were also some kick-ass randoms present: Robert DeNiro and his wife Grace Hightower, Law & Order: Criminal Intent's Vincent D'Onofrio and his wife and son; Fred Durst (again!) and his girlfriend and, best of all, Stephen Colbert and his entire family. All of them, plus the Good, Bad and Ugly of what they wore, after the jump.

The Good:
Eva Amurri shows why the little black dress is what it is. Wow.

Emile Hirsch is definitely underdressed compared to his co-stars. But I'm a sucker for a stripey anything.

Llittle Paulie Litt is sorta my hero.

Susan Sarandon's leather coat is really ugly. But son Miles Robbins is so damn cute and clearly loves his mom so damn much that I forgive and forget all.

Could Stephen Colbert and his family be any cuter?! See, they all look smart in jeans. Emile Hirsch, take note.

Same goes for Vincent D'Onofrio and his wife and kid.

I think this is my favorite of Christina Ricci's premiere dresses to date. Smart and fun.

The Bad:
Grace Hightower, per usual, is always a class act. But Robert DeNiro looks like a total schlump. Would it kill him to wear pants that fit?

The Ugly:
I'm sorry: Why was Fred Durst there?

Gwyneth Looks Bored, Models Look Hot At Iron Man Premiere

The latest installment of Gwyneth Paltrow's comeback tour (courtesy of her new film Iron Man) took place last night at a special screening in New York starring an eclectic bunch of bold-faced names with eclectic clothing. There were models (Hana Soukupova, Maggie Rizer, Helena Christensen, Joy Bryant), children of celebrities (Eva Amurri and Jack Robbins, Elettra Rosselini Wiedman), the old guard (Bebe Neuwirth, Diana Ross) and a few randoms (Leelee Sobieski, Kelly Killoren Bensimon). All those and more in the full Good, Bad and the Ugly, after the jump.

The Good:
I'm always a sucker for a picture of a big sister and a little brother, like this one of Eva Amurri and Jack Robbins. Love her skirt. Also: how much do they look like their parents?

Big yes to the drop-waist on Famke Janssen's dress.

Ok, Hana Soukupova, I get it already: You're a model. You are perfect.

I'll have what Helena Christensen is having. Even if it's safari wear.

Joy Bryant is a dream in her very modern and very sophisticated pants-and-jacket pairing. Love the silhouette. Love the colors. Want the necklace. Now.

I know I should hate Leelee Sobieski's dress, but I can't help but love it.

Maggie Rizer: Keeping it real, playing to her hair.

Gwyneth's dress: See-through or not?

The Bad:
Is anyone else surprised to learn that Tracey Ullman is the Burberry trench-wearing type?

Bebe Neuwirth: When headbands and bad fashion happen to good people.

Carol Alt: When too much satin and bad necklines happen to good people.

Is Diana Ross wearing galoshes? And leggings?

And is Elettra Wiedman wearing them too??

Liv Tyler disappoints with a sad sack of a dress paired with flesh-tone shoes.

Tory Burch: Furthering my belief that no one dresses worse than fashion designers.

Terrence Howard and his son are both dressed as Indiana Jones. Also, is his daughter carrying a clutch? Or a Trapper-Keeper?

The Ugly:
I do believe Kelly Bensimon is wearing wet boots with that most unfortunate dress.

New Yorkers For Children Know How To Dress Like Adults

New Yorkers for Children is a really amazing organization, providing social service programming for kids in the New York City foster care system. Also, Vogue editor Anna Wintour is one of its lead supporters, which is why the who's who of fashion and Hollywood all turned up for the organization's annual gala last night. Emmy Rossum, Kim Raver, Georgina Chapman, Hana Soukupova, Virginia Madsen, Eva Amurri, Joy Bryant, Leighton Meester, Mary-Kate Olsen (left), Rachel Zoe and others were there, some, of course, looking better than others. (Okay who am I fooling: Olsen and Zoe terrify me.) The full Good, Bad, and Ugly of the New Yorkers for Children's fete, after the jump.

The Good: They call Emmy Rossum mellow yellow? Maybe this could be the new alternate color for bridal: I'm newly inspired. Kim Raver also wears something that would be a prettier wedding dress than anything I've seen in this week's bridal shows. Sometimes I wonder if Georgina Chapman is the only fashion designer who actually knows how to dress herself. I'm all about the Morticia Addams look on Hana Soukupova. Hell has frozen over: I like what Tinsley Mortimer is wearing. Yay for pretty Virginia Madsen and her pretty dress.

The Bad: Eva Amurri, why must you hide what God gave you? Jennifer Missoni shows how young women Miley Cyrus' age should dress. (Of course, Missoni's 23, not 15.) Joy Bryant channels Miss Scarlett and wears the drapes. Kate Lee Joel dresses like Miss Haversham would've before she entered her later years. I like that she tried out something different, but something about Leighton Meester's look just isn't working. Also, does anyone else think Meester looks totally different in her real life (or, er, at least on the red carpet) than she does on Gossip Girl? Marghertia Missoni's whole look is 10% overdesigned.

The Ugly: Most of the time, I hang my head in shame for loving Mary-Kate Olsen's look. Today is not one of those days. It's Medusa! Oh sorry: It's just Rachel Zoe.

Uma & Eva Look Great Even Though Their Movie Looks Awful

In the new film The Life Before Her Eyes, Uma Thurman, left, plays a woman who, as a child, witnessed a "Columbine-like" event which fucked her up for life. But want to know what's really fucked up? The fact Evan Rachel Wood plays Thurman's character's younger self. To quote Cher Horowitz: As if. Susan Sarandon's daughter, the painfully-beautiful Eva Amurri, also stars, and all of the aforementioned ladies were at the New York Film Society's screening of the movie last night. There were also a ton of models: Hana Soukupova, Helena Christensen, Irina Pantaeva, and Maggie Rizer, some, of course, better dressed than others. The Good:

Eva Amurri knows how to showcase what her mama gave her.
Speaking of which, these are the moments when I can't believe that Amurri's mama Susan Sarandon played Janet in The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Also, how cute is her son Miles?
Yay for Gabrielle Brennan, the appropriately-dressed child of the day.
Damn you, Helena Christensen.
Irina Pantaeva should be rewarded for curbing her nascent Bai Ling-esque fashion instincts.
This is the best I have ever seen Nicole Miller look. Sigh.
I wish I could quit you, Olivia Palmero.

The Bad:
What's with the shiny, tiny pantsuit Hana Soukupova?
Oh, Maggie Rizer: Just 'cause your stepdaddy stole all your money doesn't mean you can't make some effort in dressing yourself.

The Ugly:
I love Dita von Teese. I am horrified to witness Evan Rachel Wood morphing into her.
