I don't understand in which universe Natalie Portman's dress qualifies as "perfection." I'm pretty sure that length isn't flaterring on anyone. And the shoes look completely out of place. Meh.

@BetteD: At first, I thought that perhaps she's doing some kind of meta reference to sparkly glam by wearing a starry sky print. But even if that's the case, she's conspicuously underdressed. To me, her dress says, "I'm so above my company (and everyone ever) that I can wear a sundress in the winter to the damn NYC Ballet."

@jigglyball: @BetteD I agree with both of you. I think the print of her dress looks like material you would get at Joann's fabrics for the purpose of costuming Merlin in a 5th grade school play. Also, I feel like she's one of those Harvard grads who would somehow work their alma mater into every 3rd or 4th sentence when talking to you at a cocktail party. Oh yeah, and being an apologist for a child rapist and equating eating meat to being a rapist (WTF?!) doesn't really boost my opinion of her either.

I was once at a black tie event where Alexandra Lebenthal wore an enormous red satin caftan cape thing (think something Andre Leon Tally would die for) and sliver cigarette pants. She looked amazing. That woman can wear anything.

I don't really care for Natalie Portman's outfit, to be honest. There is something about the tailoring that renders it frumpy, to me, the length is unflattering to someone her height, and the shoes are boring.

I think that Mila Kunis looks adorable, though.

Also it looks too much like a simple cotton dress, I don't know what the material is but it doesn't photograph very well.

@Ailatan: I would add that the straps and bust are too low also. I'm 5'3" and any dress that hangs that low creates an effect that draws the viewers' eyes downward, thereby making you appear shorter and dumpy. If you're petite, you want clothing that plays up that factor and makes you look lithe, not stumpy.

But the bottom? Yeesh. Needs to be shorter, more flattering line, and lighter shoes.

She's beautiful no matter what, but this is not a flattering look for her.

@Leucadia: It really depends on the shade of blue, in my opinion. For example, a saphire dress with a black belt would be beautiful. But, if the shades are too close, it makes it hard to discern between them and it looks sloppy, in my opinion.
