British Vogue used to do articles like this all the time about models of interest back in the 90s. Then they went all celeb obsessed too and I stopped reading... #larastone
Why do they say she has a 'Flemish face'? She's Dutch. People often say Flemish, when they refer to someone having a face like a Vermeer painting (Girl with the pear earring), but he was Dutch too. #larastone
@BlondeGoddess: I think they mean her face is like the faces in the paintings of the Flemish school. Like you can compare someone to a Botticelli without meaning that they're Italian. I don't personally see that she looks like something out of a van Eyck but there we go! #larastone
@clochette: Ditto! I sometimes think of making a T-shirt with 'I'm,like, SO annoyed right now.'
I once bought a tee on the street that said 'Every day I'm forced to add another name to the list of people that piss me off'. I gave it to my boyfriend, regrettably, because we later broke up and now I wish I had the tee (with his name added to the list, natch). #larastone
Whoa! Whoa, whoa, whoa! She pushed a coworker down "only a few stairs" and you characterize it as "human"?!!! I characterize it as "simple assault." #larastone
FYI- When you click on the scanned photos of the article, websites for "amateur webcam sex" pop up. For those west-coasters (and late-working east-coasters) still at work! #larastone
"Hence why you'll never read about the night Charlize Theron's mom shot and killed her dad while 15-year-old Charlize watched in a women's magazine."
Um, that's not true - we highlighted that aspect of her history in a Charlize cover-story/interview in UK Cosmo 8 or 9 years ago. The reason it doesn't get mentioned now is that everyone knows about it at this point, and I'm sure Charlize herself doesn't want this episode to be endlessly repeated - there is more to her than just this horrible chapter in her life.
Besides this minor slip-up, good job at explaining the whole celeb law of diminishing returns. So true.
@Diziet_Sma: Additionally, it was written about in Jane magazine several years ago. But to be fair, Jane didn't start out as a normal women's mag. #larastone
@Diziet_Sma: Me too! There were some great fashion editorials that I still remember today. Not to mention the general tone of the mag. Double sigh. #larastone
I'm just shocked she's not hunched over more in that photo. Cramps, girl! Imagine horrific, back-breaking cramps!
And for the record, I am a woman and I have no wish to be skinnier. None. I have no idea what I weigh, but if someone told me (a psychic doctor, perhaps) that I had lost or gained 15 lbs in the past year I'd be hard-pressed to do more than shrug. So sorry, Ms. Stone and any other marketers' dreams who state this like it's a fact. And I'm not even going to pretend it's because I have more important things to worry about, like world hunger.
I like this kind of flash of insight into someone you wouldn't normally learn a ton about, and about whom you don't expect to read a whole lot more. I think it's a more interesting, and in some ways more revealing, way to interact with these people who play a part in our media culture. #larastone
I have a theory. Maybe men don't like her because she's an alcoholic who pushes people down "a few" stairs. There is a difference between pushing past somebody and pushing them. It's just a theory. #larastone
@token_illiterate_commenter: I don't think "alcoholic" is her fault or can be considered some sort of personality flaw that turns men off, yeah? #larastone
@femme-bot: Maybe not her fault, but it's a pretty good reason not to get involved with somebody if you don't already have a relationship with them. #larastone
I'm assuming, given British Vogue's publication lead times, that the French Vogue October issue wasn't out when the issue closed.
The writer mentions her last contact with Stone, in a follow-up interview, took place during London Fashion Week. That puts us in late September. The issue of Paris Vogue wasn't available until the middle of last month. #larastone
Based on my own experience with owning a Barbie--to look like my Barbie, I would need to chop of all my hair, dye it orange with food dye, cover my face with blue magic marker "make up" and run around in a tube top with no pants.

And my remark was more a pet peeve: people (who aren't Dutch) will often refer to Rembrandt as his 'Flemish faces', etc. #larastone

She looks very like Liv Ullmann (right).
