I'm taking advantage of the housewares I already own, so its a battle between Red Plates and Blue Plates. Blue plates: Arugala salad and chanpagne. Red plates: Hot dogs, apple pie and a six pack. My disposal is broken so when guests arrive, they may end up meeting with my plumber. Also: The Champagne bottles have specific goals on them (Obama wins georgia, No on prop 8, Kleeb wins NE, etc)

I'm just heading out to Sainsbury's here in Edinburgh to buy snax for election night. Maybe some cocktail haggis and mini sausage rolls? I don't know b/c my usual results-watching diet is many beers followed by hard liquor and in the 2000 election about 45 chain-smoked cigarettes. Being pregnant will put a crimp in that although I MIGHT allow myself one victory pint!

MAN I am late to this thread. I was out all day buying a zillion different kinds of food with which to stock my larder, incidentally!

Unfortunately I wont be able to go to any election night parties--I work in NYC and I live in NJ, and I'll have to rush home after work and walk a mile to get to my polling place. Major bummer. But, after I cast my vote, I'll hunker down with election coverage and a bottle of wine. And maybe some pre-packaged aloo makhani that I got at the Indian store today.

I want to make Virginia-shaped cookies with blue frosting to share with my class, because I have school Tuesday night. My class is incidentally full of libertarian-but-really-republican grad students/ideologues. I think it would be interesting to see their disdain but still eat the cookies because who turns down free food?

On election night, I'm going to dance my worries away at a Black Seeds concert. The Black Seeds ([www.theblackseeds.com]) are a wicked, warm-hearted Kiwi reggae band, and I heartily recommend them if you're in need of some lush, laid-back distraction.

Then I'm coming home to settle myself in front of the telly for hours to watch the results as they come in on the BBC, and drink cheery and cheap red wine until I can feel no pain.

Wednesday is going to be a complete fucking washout. The earliest I can realistically expect to hear the results is about five in the morning here in London, so I am going to be a first class basketcase, no matter how it pans out.

Either way, I have a feeling there are going to be tiny, tiny tears of rage or happiness come Wednesday morning.

I will be pulling an all-nighter by myself (American elections in The Netherlands: not really interesting enough for friends to come join me, unfortunately), so I've got two bags of potato chips, a large bar of chocolate and a 1.5 liter bottle of red wine. Wooo!

Martha Stewart's website has suggestions for an election night party. Mostly it's just regular (but yummy and awesome) party food. The only election-y thing are the flag cupcakes:

    Here's the recipe:

I'm having a party and was planning to serve blue and red food, which is going to include blueberry crisp and pizza (it has red sauce.) I am doing red and white drinks, though, because I don't want to buy a bottle of Curacao and have it sit around the next 10 years.

    I'm having a par-tay on Tuesday!

Theme food on the menu so far:

-Blue Chips w/ Homemade salsa & Queso Blanco dip

-Red Pepper slices w/ veggie dip (damn no blue vegetables)

-Red and Blue jello (shot) squares w/ Cool Whip topping

Along with that will be the usual assortment of cheese and crackers, cocktail weenies and fancy olives. We also just spent 35 bucks on red, white and blue decorations, including Democratic donkey plates and napkins!

I'll take a swig or three from the "Election Day" batch of Maker's Mark (it's covered in a cool, red white & blue wax top).

Moonshine and Everclear-jello shots would be appropriate for the Palin cocktail set.

@Cam/ron: only if they're made with store brand jello, jello brand jello is way to elite.

I'm working on the food plan for my election night party on like, Sunday night, because that's when my friend who is helping me will be free. We haven't quite figured out the plan yet, but we'll get there. Guest list? Eh. We'll get there. Food? Again, we'll get there. Booze? The only thing that's certain is a bottle or two of cheap champagne. But there will be booze.
