I was VERY pleased with the article. In various discussions I've had with friends and family, I have mentioned, "I am so proud that Barack Obama married a beautiful, black woman..." I never forget to add the point, "...and she is a dark-skinned woman!" THAT MATTERS! I am a dark-skinned black woman, and I feel that - that particular segment of the black community, for a long time, has gone through a subtle social "weed-out" process as the ugly ducklings of American society. Is that extreme? I don't know. I don't think so. Although it is only a small segment of visual media, the point is evidenced by Hip Hop and R&B music videos over the last decade (and longer than that, I'm sure). Lastly, Anna, you'd mentioned that you are a light-skinned person. I appreciate your discernment of the importance of mentioning that. If you had not, I have a feeling that it would be assumed that you are a dark-skinned woman with a HYPER-SENSITIVE perception. Thank you for bringing the truth of this matter to light!
