    One of my serious life's dreams is to have a pet duck. My mom had one as a kid and I have all kinds of pictures of her frolicking with a duck. It's going to happen, someday.

    That is so sweet. It is really nice to see that Joe and Frank can give each other such comfort. And I love that the dog and the duck play together. As I write this my hamster is sitting on my shoulder. Lots of people think it is wierd that I love my hamster so much, so I can identify with someone whose pet is considered unusual. Size and species don't matter. When they sleep in your hand, or take food from your hand, or come to you happily, the trust and affection are really great to have in your life.

    i have a duck that looks just like Frank - we call him either Dr. T or 'Poophead' depending. i have to say he is the most charming creature i have ever had in my life. They are HIGHLY social, live around 25 years, follow you EVERYWHERE (imprinting and all that) Poophead stands at the back door yackking all day and if the door is opened in he pops - he LOVES playing with the dogs, loves to be held and scratched and if
    there was some way to poop-train him i would have him inside in an instant. As it is i have never met an animal that produces more poop in my life! If duck poop was worth money i would be a b'zillionaire. i know they have diapers for ducks but that just seems stupid to me. So he stays in the backyard . swims in his pool, plays with the dogs and hops in the house we let him. LOVE ME DUCKIE!!!!!!

    I had a a few ducklings when I was a kid and it was a ton of work to take care of them. They were also rather messy to keep as housepets, but I had to keep them inside because where I grew up, ducks were not regarded as pets, they were food, and a lot of people were hungry & rather impatient with my sentimentality. I had to watch them constantly to make sure that one of my neighbors didn't grab them and cook them for dinner.

    @prestocaro: washed, ready to eat: No. They have no sphincter muscle so they can't stop themselves from pooping long enough to make it outside.


    My method was to quarantine them after I fed them. And when they got bigger, some variation on this: [www.feathersite.com]
