"I Am Dr. Tiller": A Moving Tribute |

I mean, I would like to have a baby someday soon, and now all I can think about is what if my baby develops horribly wrong while I am pregnant with him or her. What if my baby's brain never develops, what if the kidneys don't develop, what if any number of things go wrong. I have already decided that I have no desire to carry such a pregnancy to term, not only for my own health but because what is the point when it comes to the child's perspective? That I'd give birth to a baby that would live a short life full of suffering just so I could have a clean conscience? That is not a choice I am prepared to make, and I don't think many would blame me, even many of those who say they are against late-term abortions.
And now there is one fewer doctor who is willing to provide this kind of care. It is so, so tragic, I can barely put it into words.

I chose not to have an abortion. I was a young alcoholic and drug addict (though I didn't know that at the time.) I made a decision that has affected the rest of my life, and that of my daughter. The choice I made wasn't really fair to either one of us, but there's no second guessing it now. I was a crappy parent for 15 years, when I gave up booze and drugs.
I am pro-abortion. Based on my own experiences, I know that most teenaged girls are not ready to be parents. Choosing to have a baby is a decision that will impact them forever - and I don't think most kids are capable of making an informed decision.
I say I am pro-abortion, because after all that has happened, all I've read, and all I've felt as an angry old feminist - I'm not going to say "abortion should be safe, legal, and rare" or anything like that ever again. Abortion should be safe and legal, and available to any girl or woman who needs it at any point in her pregnancy. I am going to say plenty about the rights of women to privacy. I'm going to stick up for abortion in a whole new way - one that doesn't smack of shame. It's our shame that allows the terrorists to continue to harass doctors, staff, and patients at women's health clinics, and at abortion clinics. If we weren't convinced that we should be ashamed - we'd never stand for it. We must stop this. We have a right to privacy - and that right trumps the rights of these terrorists.
I hope some of you will join me.

(And thank you for sharing your story.)

I sometimes worry about saying I'm "pro-abortion", because I don't want to minimize how going through the whole process can suck. But really? Abortion is a great tool. I'm lucky in that I've never had to go with anything more expensive or involved than plan B, but I feel safer knowing that abortion is a choice. I adore children, and I hope to be lucky enough to have a couple some day, but if abortion were off the table, I'd seriously consider having my tubes tied (at 28, if any doctor would even do that) and adopting if and when I'm ready.
Again, thank you for speaking up. That was really personal and moving, and I think stories like yours are necessary to keep the movement alive.

I agree with you that abortion should be available to any woman at any point in her pregnancy.

Today, I am ready to have a child and hope to become pregnant within the next couple of years. Now I would only choose to terminate if my health was in danger or if there were major complications with the fetus. And I would likely need someone like Dr. Tiller. He was a hero. This world is diminished by his absence.

you can do anything from basic office work to clinic escorting (though there is of course an application/interview process) (and if the location you are near provides abortions).

I'm still shocked by the radical bigotry that this horrible murder brought to light. I guess it has something to do with being European, but I wasn't aware how ruthless not only the murderer of Dr. Tiller, but the whole anti-choice movement is.

I am genuinely afraid that women will soon not have a choice in the U.S., de facto. But in my more optimistic moments, I hope that Dr. Tiller's murder will raise

Of course, other complications aside, there are a lot of anti-choice women. Sigh.

Dr. Tiller's sacrifice will not have been in vain.

i had to heart you for that.

Too bad the anti-abortion lying liars won't care.

they are not interested in seeing our side on this because our side is being toyed with by satan, don't you know? we're the ones that get our information from the computers, which are pretty much gateways directly to hell (and free flowing pornography). how can our opinions or our voices be taken seriously by the religious elite when we are all such god-less heathens?
/sarcasm, (just in case).
