    The book The Chalice and the Blade by Riane Eisler delves into the possibility that only a few thousand years ago there were egalitarian, matrilinear, peaceful cultures throughout Europe, and that they were overrun and transformed by violent, patriarchial nomads. The archeological evidence is intriguing, and the idea that a culture doesn't need to focus on destruction and domination feels like a dream come true.

    I hope that a lot of people are paying attention to Hillary Clinton.

    You know what Sarah Palin? We freaking know that you're from Alaska, you don't have to keep reminding us. I don't care if electric cars won't work in Alaska. You know why? Because less than one third of one percent of the US population lives there. That's not to say that I don't care about those people, but if everyone who lives in a place that can support electric cars is able to get one, it would be really freaking good. It still wouldn't be completely clean (because, after all, we do have to generate all that electricity), but it would be better. So eff you SP and get out of my life. #politicsandbullshit

    I thought, with her advanced degree (with emphasis in journalism [!]), that Palin would know how to write an essay. You know, no unsubstantiated claims- maybe expand on the "harmful consequences" of importing goods. Thank you for taking a big old red pen to her work, Latoya. #politicsandbullshit

    Here's what I love about Hillary:
    1. She's a kickass Sec. of State
    2. She came THIS close to being the first female president
    3. She never let her husband overshadow her
    4. She and I both dig the pantsuit

    Here's what I hate about Palin (abridged for your convenience):
    1. She's stupid and proud of it, just like every annoying girl in high school.
    2. She's "as pro-life as any candidate can be" and uber-conservative on every other social issue
    3. She wanted to explore the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge for oil
    4. She is no friend to the polar bear #politicsandbullshit

    i love the contrast between clinton's outlook which is organic and recognizes that successful policies have to affect future outcome, not just be a band-aid now that benefits a few in the loop; and palin's which as always is short-sighted, unimaginative and me-oriented. who says alternative energy cars have to be electric? somebody could come up with a totally different idea for this, but palin doesn't even consider that possibility.

    I love that Latoya references Handel, CeCe Peniston and Sublime. Also, that the concept of alternative fuels or any of the newer, cleaner technologies to fuel "that driving" never occurs to Palin. Nor the concept of limiting driving, since in its current incarnation it is bad for the environment. Not exactly a forward thinker, that one. But being that she's from Alaska, her being a shill for the oil industry is hardly a surprise.

    But Hillary, holy hell. It's a testament to how far our government has fallen that someone merely speaking sense and making policy that incorporates the big picture is such a relief. Because it's been so long since our foreign policy has been anything but a Kafkaesque horrorshow. #politicsandbullshit

    You forfeited your right to pose as the supreme advocate for Alaska when you decided to step down from your job as Alaska's Governor halfway through your term. #politicsandbullshit
