The fuck? I sat through the entire video waiting to see tummy. And nothing. Her shirt is unbuttoned, but the loose folds of fabric shield most of her body from view. And what little skin you can see-- isn't much. She's probably a size 4.
Personally, I think she looks fine, but I kind of see what the record company means. She's got a bit of a gut jiggling about around 3:50. Don't kill me, I think she looks fine and our beauty standard sucks blah blah... really, she just needed to wear better fitting pants and it wouldn't even have been noticeable. Maybe a pair with a slightly higher rise?
She's got the goods, just needed a better costumer :)
I've lost touch since her Dresden Dolls days, so pardon my ignorance, but what happened to her voice? I compare this song to "Coin Operated Boy" and "My Alcoholic Friends", and the difference is rather striking.
@Tits.McGee: She sounds way different in Leeds United than on the rest of the album - youtube search for "WKAP" to hear the rest of it. This was a demo version that made it onto the album as-is. Even live, her voice is way smoother than this. I think people like that its rough though?
And no one was offended by the Nazi Flag? Or the cut of the man about to punch a woman? The stomach (which was flat as anything!) should be the last concern of the company.
I wasn't a big fan of the song, but the video looked great! Her stomach was flat(not like it should matter!!), and I loved the Cabaret look. (Is this music Gothic Cabaret?)
@mossaia: she and brian have said they're on hiatus, but will make music together again someday. This was more Brian's call than hers ... He's touring with World/Inferno Friendship Society (who are also awesome, in a slightly different way)
I see what they mean, her belly does hang over her pants a little, more than what you'd see on tv. For a normal person she looks fine, but for the look she's going for in the video, it's distracting. If she wore higher waist pants, it wouldn't have been noticible.
@BytheSea: By her own admission, she nailed "the look she was going for in the video" - belly and all. She's not aiming for commercially appealing, she's aiming for sexy and awesome.
@BytheSea: Yeah, you're right. And because of this she doesn't deserve to show her stomach, or feel sexy, or own her body and the way it looks, even if it's different than what we ALWAYS FUCKING SEE. I mean, you're right.
YAY! My sister is a big time Amanda Palmer fangirl and is a mod on the message board where this got started. Sister-thing has always had self esteem problems relating to her weight, and when I saw the picture of her belly on the internet (it's actually the top right one in the Guardian article) I actually cried a little bit because I was so happy that she felt able to post that picture for the whole internets to see!
@ineffable.me: I remember reading a story in the papers back then warning us youngs 'uns that writing on your skin with magic marker pen could make you ill. All those toxins and all. Yep, while all our rock idols had rather serious addictions to heroin, we were warned to STAY AWAY FROM THE MARKER PEN.

I'm a huge DD/Amanda Palmer fan - the music is beyond amazing. Also, Amanda's possibly the sexiest woman alive.
And pretty much the most self-affirming thing you can do is write "i love the belly" on your own belly and put it on display for strangers. Try it!
