American Apparel just got ousted from a potential site in San Francisco's Mission District--hipster central. An anti-chain store neighborhood group got together and convinced the city not to grant permission for the store to open. A lot of the protesters were actually wearing AA clothing and admitted to buying it on a regular basis. They just didn't want the store in their neighborhood. I think that would have made a funnier cartoon.

I used to work at American Apparel up until recently and I really enjoyed it. I had the opportunity to meet Dov on a couple of occassions and all I can say about him is that he was really nice, easy to talk to, and very smart.

No one I know ever had anything negative to say about him, at my store, or any of the others so it's a bit hard for me to imagine all the things I hear about him to be true. I know of the allegations. I'm not saying they're are not true, just simply judging him from the times I met him.

About the ads, I like them. They're not for everyone.

@Johnny_Rocket: Yeah, I have had several friends over the years working for AA (who I would exploit for the discount, of course) and none of them have had any problems. I too like the ads, they can sometimes go a bit far but its rare. The vitriol towards Dov and the company itself and it's merch is ridiculous, there are worse companies/CEO's/product lines in the world to get in an uproar about than fucking AA.

@sweaterqueen: Seriously, I worked with a guy who seemed nice but was arrested for restraining and raping a girl with a friend of his. Nice doesn't equal not a pervert or creep.

I went to the American Apparel HQ/factory/outlet store this weekend. I was kinda hoping I'd see Dov skulking around, but alas. I did, however, see his parking space. He appears to drive a rather unassuming beige-ish Cadillac DeVille.
